To etch blade steel on knife or not?

Finally got some stencils with my makers mark, and while at it had some of the common steels added.
I usually work in 1095 or 1084.
I really hate a cluttered knife with all kinds of proof markings etc, so just wanted to get your guys thoughts on this.
To put on or not?

Yep, the type of steel should be small letters and not "in your face", but still shows the customer what he's getting. I agree with you, too cluttered is too much, but a tasteful amount adds to the knife giving it that truly "custom" look.

Just my opinion.

Definitely keep your logo simple and clean. I usually put my name on the obverse side and the steel type on the reverse, parallel with the spine. Several makers etch the steel type right on the spine between the handle scales, that looks good too.

I struggled with this dilema a bit myself. In the end, I had to build a few knives trying different placements of my maker's mark and steel type, to find which I preferred. For me, photographs and type of knife construction were the big factors in how I currently place my marks. I'm also willing to adjust the placement if the situation calls for it. Placement is important for the overall look, but IMO, a clean and Bold mark is more important.

Thanks guys.

My wife thinks I should go opposite side of my mark on the blade.. but I'm leaning towards on the handle back strap.
