To flip or not to flip

I've made a few with flipper tabs, out of experimentation/necessity or by request from good clients. But I don't enjoy it or like flipper tabs.

I've yet to see one that isn't either uncomfortable/in wrong spot for me or visually disruptive to the flow of the knife. Far too often it's both.

The vast majority just flat out look ridiculous to me, including a few that I made. I'm not a fan.

Thanx I felt alone in here 🤣

Can't believe I'm about to say this, but I'm a very progressive knife owner...I guess. Thumbstuds, flippers, autos, gravity knives, etc.. If the knife opens, it's all good.

I'm a Gen X and boy-oh-boy do I fidget. When my thumb gets sore from that CRK, then I'll start flipping a Hinderer. If both my thumb and index finger are crying for mercy, it's time for an auto.

Except nail nicks. Don't like those. Two hands? What is this? 1976? :p

Do thin bladed, thin handle folding knives exist that are flippers running on bearing?

They exist and it might be worth making a separate thread for this. Lots of modern flippers run 0.125" blade stock, which is definitely okay for general use (and better than 0.15", etc.) but a thinner blade feels better when slicing. Some of mine run 0.11" and a few get smaller but the number gets smaller in a hurry. For something a little more premium, my North Arms Skaha II is very nice at 0.10". Of course, it has a thicker handle. 🤷‍♂️

I wish someone would make a list or database. Having an otherwise great advanced search feature, I've tried bugging BladeHQ to include blade and handle thickness as search criteria. They just aren't indexed to do it and say it would be a pain to go through and do it.

I'm in the ambivalent camp; I do own a few flippers, but they aren't in my go-to's. I do generally knives that aren't flipper only though, either complemented with a thumb stud, or a fuller/hole or groove.

Nice, I’d probably go with washers as well. I enjoy a good break in period! Have fun with it.
If you like CRK, this is right between the large and small. It's about as small of a knife that I'd like, I sent my small sebenza on its way once I held it.

Nice, I agree. The small crk’s make no sense. Handles are tiny, especially on the inkosi, only a kid’s fingers would fit in those 2 choils.

I wish CRK would do a flipper. At the very least, either make a front-flipper version of the classic or do one on bearings that is designed to thumb-flick.

Until then, I'll just marvel at their beauty from afar...

Yes, you might check about the Brad Zinker urban trapper. I think they were made by Boker plus. I have one that was my first bearing flipper and it has been a great gentleman knife for ligher duty stuff. Mine has a 3.5 inch VG10 blade, titanium handle with G10 covers. Its a nice knife .
