To get fat or not!

I think I remember hearing that carbo-loading before marathons or distance bike races has fallen out of favor, I might be completely mistaken about that.

No, unfortunately that's still encouraged quite often. I never pig out though. Decent meal the night before and a lot of good snacks has given me plenty of good races and more than one 1st place:thumbup:
 
In a survival situation your body will breakdown muscle before fat.

Oh, that's a downer for me! :) Joking a bit, but I was under the impression it was the other way around. I heard many times the very opposite. I suppose that at one point fat will burn and you'll have some muscle left, I hope!, but by then I will be in deep...trouble.

I'll try to do the math as well preparing for a trip and "force feed" me, if needed. I don't want to rely on my appetite if it's clear that my intake is not sufficient.
