Well I just got home from he gun show, and the selection of Emerson's was poor, but they did have a CQC Super Seven, plus two other models.

I have decided I want a Spear Point, Black Handle, Stone-washed, Serrated, CQC-7.

Now I am asking myself it I want the "WAVE" Feature, or it to be with out?

You do. I've had the mini CQC7 for years... Since I think shortly after I first registered here. Just now ordered a new Gentleman Jim to replace my now missing Sebbie and Mini 7 (so irritating to lose $600 in the same month). The wave feature is without a doubt one of the greatest strengths to Emerson knives.

You can always pull it out without hooking as well. If you are worried about wear and tear on your jeans (which will happen), sand down the G10 grit and be gentle on "waving".

The question you need to ask yourself is, do you want a knife, with the capability to automatically open on deployment (as fast or slow as you need it to) at the cost of your pant pockets? I work in a suit and tie job, my EDC is normally a sebbie and a Keltech .32. My Mini7 was my "after hours" or travel to another state/country knife.

EDIT: Colubrid also mentioned a good point that I didn't. The wave is a fantastic thumb rest that gives a lot of added support.

I say go wave. If for any reason your thumb disc breaks(unlikely) you have another method of opening.

I had a cqc7 for about 5 years and never really used the wave much. Lost the knife and now have a waveless cqc7 and wish I had the wave back. Its always greener on the other side.
Don't think it out so much. Get the wave.

coop- I have a waveless 7 also and at times wanted to get a waved 7 but like you said, I hardly ever used the wave so I'm staying put.

I had a commander with a wave years ago, and I could easily get it out of the pocket without the wave catching. So, I would get the wave. It's there when you want it, doesn't have to be when you don't. My .02

Plus the wave gives a extra thumb rest...which it was originally created for.. the resulting opening out of the pocket was discovered by Emerson after the fact.. Emerson never invented the wave for opening out of the pocket.. it was for a thumb rest.

While reading this thread I decided to look up my local gun shows for today and I am now en route....damn you guys

Amici,
I would get BOTH waved and waveless and EDC each at different times. That way you'll be able to determine which one floats your boat best.

One thing about the wave, if you're left handed, it pretty much sucks. But if you send it to Ernie for southpaw tapping, then it really does rock. But using it as a rightie, it can be a bit cumbersome IMHO.. I'd also throw a lanyard on it, makes it deploy so much faster.

I have 6 CQC-7's in both versions, full sized and mini, and bounce between each depending on the situation and my mood at any given time.

Best way to sum it up is, "sometimes you feel like a wave, sometimes you don't".. With that said, I think I'll go "waved" tonight with a SF mini commander!!

Cheers,
Serge

When I was at the Gun Show yesterday and got to touch, feel, and look hard at the Emerson's for sale. I was blow away at the attention to detail.
The Knife Dealer had some other brand with "waves", but the Emerson Wave was smaller.

I question why Spyderco made their Wave so large on their Spyderco's, with wave features.

My mind is made up, I will order a CQC-7 Emerson, with Wave, Spear Point, Black Handle, Stone-washed, Serrated, Left Hand Carry.

That is a question for a whole different forum. But if I had to guess, it was done to match the design aesthetics they were looking for. Why make it identical, that is not the nature of the game.

I have a cqc10 and wish it didn t have the wave. I carry IWB and the wave makes pulling the knife out more difficult.

I used to have several waved Emersons. The wave is cool, when it works, but not very consistent, for me, even with practice.

I recently bought a few lately, without the wave, and my pants pockets say "thank you". The non waved CQC-7 also looks "cleaner".

Seriously?

I have to look hard to find an Emerson folder whose G10 scales actually fit the frame underneath. It's been my experience that the last thing Emerson Knives are known for is their fit and finish....

it depends on the knife's use intention..... more of a tactical/self defense jic/do it all? go with it
I think OF an Emerson with no wave is like a girl that doesn't do BJs... sure you could date her but it doesn't have "that" factor to make me stay around ;-)

Wave. I rarely use mine and knives pull out fine without using it ya want.

That's easily one of my favorite quotes in here man:thumbup::cool:
