to keep or not to keep, that is the question.

Ok, we are all knife nuts in one way or another.
Some of us are more addicted than others, but we all have that addiction in some form, haha.

For those that buy knives to try out, or fondle, or see if you like it, what are your deciding factors on whether to keep said knife or move it to try another one? Its a question and dilemma I face with every knife I buy, lol

I just got a new in package Olamic in the mail today from a black friday sale, and damn this thing is sweet. Now its on to more stages of knife addition.

stage one was the shopping for said knife,
stage two was buying said knife.
stage three and four were waiting for said knife (takes two steps because i hate waiting).
stage five is opening the knife
stage six is cleaning up the drool
stage seven is fondling the knife
stage eight is to decide to keep it or not (this stage sometimes can last years)

Just finished stage six, now its time to fondle/admire and decide to keep or not. lol
By the way, isnt it great when a knife arrives and it looks even better than it did online?

I should prob add pictures, pictures are neat.

This is more or less what happens to me, but I would describe it slightly differently:

1. Learn of / rediscover knife
2. Research and watch youtube videos
3. Shop around
4. Purchase and wait
5. Inspect, admire, handle
6. Decide if I’m ever going to carry it

Often, I have gone through steps 1-4 with 6 presumed as “yes”, but, by the time I get past 5... I just decide not to, maybe because of an aspect I dislike, the price being high enough that I feel unwilling to use it, or any number of other reasons.

Even now, I have a 4V Manix that I am hesitant to carry because the blade steel is not corrosion-resistant and, even though I’ve coated all blade surfaces with Tuf-Glide, I’m still too worried about it pitting or rusting to have sufficiently convinced myself to carry it. I’m still undecided as to its fate.

That's a keeper.

To sell:
I find if I'm hesitant to use a knife or overly careful whilst using, it's usually an indication I'm subconsciously thinking of selling it.

To keep:
If it gets adequate pocket time and doesn't collect dust it's a keeper. Simple, but so am I.

some might call it heavy for a folder, but I like to fell the weight of my knife and know its there. hah.
it was listed at 4.9 ounces, but i haven't had ounce scales since i was in my 20's many moons ago. lol
as for what they go for, they arent cheap unfortunately.
You can check out the Olamic site and get some ideas of what they go for on the half baked builds. Customization just add to the price.
I found mine on an Olamic Authorized dealer site.

I just have to say that I appreciate your word choices, expressions, and details. They put a smile on my face.

Edit: What a crazy coincidence that the post above mine uses the phrase "...put a smile on your face"

I usually know if I’m going to carry/use a knife or keep it as a safe queen before I actually buy it. Sometimes that changes once in hand but not very often. What dictates if I’m going to keep it or not is ergos for a user and F&F/rarity for a safe queen.

ahhh ok , well who was the dealer site ? i might want to get one

i got mine from russianknives.com whom I believe is a member and advertises here on bladeforums.
Looks like they only have one left with a different handle pattern, and they have the busker too (next on my list from olamic).
Maybe you can email him and see if you can get in on the cyber monday deal.
But I highly suggest checking the half baked builds right on olamics site to see some more options and reasonable prices.
My initial impressions are they are worth the money, but im pretty much a nobody. I just need to convince myself the price is worth it. lol

To keep or not to keep? ? !
try a simple gut feeling test.
If you're not in the slightest way
wanting to own another at the moment,
then you obviously know
that its one of those things
you can probably do without...

1. Does it have a lock type or opening mechanism that I don't yet have?
2. Does it suck?

If the answer to 1. is "yes" and 2. is "no" then it's a keeper. Sometimes it's a keeper even if the answer to 2. is "yes" if I'm being completely honest.

im in love with orange peel scalloped with black blade. now i must save up lol . and or sell . i got 4 incoming ,wish i had seen these before lol

I totally know the feeling. hahah
been there done that type of thing with these.
take a look at their intragram page and see tons of different builds.
I actually have them working on a custom build for me right now, i just got this one becasue the price was right.
This one is going to sit in its case until my build arrives and then I decide which stays and which goes. lol

Thanks for all the replies everyone else.
I know how I decide, and what my factors are, I just wanted to see what others think, so its cool to get others points of view.

Beautiful Wayfarer. Congrats!

After 3 years of knife consumerism, I’m finally reaching the point where I’m debating shedding a few that I don’t carry often and that don’t excite me as much as they used to.

I’m kinda feeling like I should clear out a few to make room for something new. My tastes are evolving, but I’m a bit concerned they may swing back.

This really sums it up well, I think:
Keep it till it doesn't put a smile on your face anymore.
