To Make A Fire.

It cannot tell you how happy it makes me to get three or four words into a Jackknife post and realize that I am about to read a new story. My fourteen year old son is in Scouts right now, so this one hit close to home. Great last line.

Thanks Carl, I love reading your stories. You really should look into publishing the collection as a book.

I did learn years ago that aerosol starting fluid was not a reasonable substitute for charcoal lighter fluid... FOOOM!

Great story, and very timely too - just spent last weekend camping out with our Scout Troop. Sadly one of the Dads was like Bobby's Father in your story. I was proud of the Scouts (and my son) for sticking it out through the rain & cold.

I truly enjoy your stories Carl. Yet again a great story and one that harkens me back to another time.

And by the way I lit my fireplace tonight - with ONE MATCH :)

Thank you Mr Carl.
A beauty of a story.
I strongly believe that if parents get involved in kids activities such as cubs and scouts it's good for all concerned.
Me and the Mrs have organised a couple of good activities this year with our boys pack. 1st Keiraville.
Being a nurse and a firey it was fire safety (with cool videos of firefighting) and 1st aid bandaging. I also did woggle making using scrap leather strap and decorative split pins(we have a lot of girls in cubs).
They loved it.Not only that it helps out the leaders. I thoroughly recommend it.
Here is my youngest being awarded Cub of The Year 2013 at the Xmas BBQ.We had to squeeze his head through the door when we got home. He has worked hard this year and will achieve Grey Wolf badge before going up to Scouts next year.

Thank you Sir indeed I will.
I'm very proud of all my my boys -eldest turned 21 today(I hate that I don't see him much tho but I was the same).

If this is indicative of your other stories Carl, I'd really
like links to the others. A very beautiful and inspiring
piece. Thank you for sharing.

I hope you don't mind, I did copy and paste it into a
Wordpad file that I might read it again.

Think I'll carry my peanut today...

Thank you, Carl. Love these true stories of life. I'm glad Mr. Van was a man of character also.
