To Mod, or Not To Mod???

Okay everyone, first time poster in the Spyderco Forum, so go easy...

I acquired a full-size Spyderco Wayne Goddard Designed 1/2 Serrated knife with Micarta handles, and I'm really not digging on the 1/2 serrated blade, at all. Serrated blades are worthless to me. The knife is used, but not abused, and was EDC'd by the previous owner for a few years, so there are some handling marks on the knife, and the blade was polished using either sandpaper, or Scothbrite, which left long scratches the length of the blade. I've started to use some coarse grit Scotchbrite to remove the longitudinal scratches, and it looks a lot better.

Would it be taboo to Mod a discontinued knife such as this? I was leaning towards a Tom Krien Regind, and removal of the serrations. It would make the knife way more useful to me, without losing the cool Wayne Goddard styling. What say the Spyderco enthusiasts? To mod, or not to mod?

Thanks in advance.

I don't post here much either. If it weren't a user I'd say leave it be but since it is I think you should make what mods you are CAPABLE of making. Don't do anything outside of your comfort zone or current skill level. It may just render a somewhat useful blade totally useless. If you are confident in your ability to remove the serrations and intend on keeping this as a user or selling as a PROPERLY modded usable piece than do so. However, if you are not confident in your ability to turn it out and resell it later or have it as a usable knife by yourself than don't do it or send it to someone else to mod out.

It's your knife, to do with as you please. Plus, based on your description, it would be of little interest to a collector anyway, as it's not in dead-mint condition. Certainly worth askiing Tom Krein if he can do the regrind you're contemplating. Can tell you I love my two TK full flat ground Schempp Persians and Kiwi.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I'll be sending it off to Tom Krein in the near future; he does great work. I saw some pics of his work on another thread, and he did a great job taking the serrations off a blade, and added his famous "grind", turning it into a slight recurve. It'll be a while 'til this happens, but I'll post pics when it's done.

Please do, we like pics; and mods are fun to look at.
