To only own Hinderer

I don't think I could own only Hinderers, I do like a little variety, but I have thinned my collection so I could afford more Hinderers.

I have two XM-'s, a 3' and 3.5" and they are great knives but they I still buy other brands as well. Although to be honest my most anticipated new knife is the ZT560 which is a Hinderer design :p

Whew, been places today that make me want a shower so, here is the internet version of that shower - a Hinderer Thread!

Well, owning other knives OR just Hinderers. Some (most) of us Love Knives, that is what brought us here. I will own many knives certainly Hinderer will be at the top of my list of worthy desireable pieces.
Are there others? sure. Too many different styles and functions and types of knives to not own/collect them.

For those new to the Hinderer product the excitement and Fascination is akin to many other "First time" experiences;) and as time goes on the Hinderer experience grows like a fine wine. Too.;)

In keeping with my all Hinderer except for a choice few (folders). I gifted a Spyderco Resilience to a visiting friend today. He's a southpaw so I switched the clip and put a ghetto (zip-tie) wave on it.

He was beside himself with joy and flipped the XM-24 once and the XM-18 he didn't even open, but just looked at for about 5 seconds and handed it back.

I felt dirty and used. I should have accidentally dropped the Resilience and pinned his foot to the floor. There's just no accounting for poor taste. :thumbdn:

Wow. I take it he was unimpressed (or possibly just intimidated) by the XM's? Maybe he was just smitten with his new good fortune and thought it would be disrespectful to
compliment a knife other than the one you gifted.
I'm always curious what motivates people.

Some may say that I've come to my senses, but I have to agree with many of you here. While Hinderer is probably the #1 knife for me, I can't help but love my other knives and the variety that comes with them. They are each, in their own right, a functional work of art. I think I was a little starstruck when I got my XM-18 therefore the willingness to sell off everything else :p I would regret selling my other knives the more I think about it...I'm pretty damn proud of the knife collection I have so far and the brands represented in it. Furthermore, it is an honor to have and carry a Hinderer knife along side the many other knives I have, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Unimpressed, he handled the XM's efore I even gave him the Spyderco - unreal?

Yeah, really. Well like you said go figure. I believe the Hinderer is so different from what most people know as a "pocket knife" you might as well be showing them a Martian toe.
People think of Dad's Case or Swiss Army when someone says, "Hey, gotta pocket knife".
Pull out a Hinderer and risk clearing a room.

Imagine owning several! I have seen that look when visitors to my home say, "Hey heard you have some cool guns"

Or just maybe he liked the Spyderco better. I do. I gave my Hind away yo my nephew. Theres no telling what he did with it.

He said "I've heard of those." When telling him I had a big honking Spyderco that I never carry. Now a little background. This man was a former karate instructor when I started in 1973. We both took up escrima about 20 yrs ago as well as karate which we both still are fairly adept at. Before the knives came out he told me he had hooked up with Filipino teacher outside of Phoenix and that guy taught him some new stuff in that past 2 years, then handed him off to a Caucasian dude who only practices and teaches the blade portion of a few of the gazillion sub-species of FMA.

He said folders sucked so I asked him to show me his edc, expecting something like a karambit or something. He told me he left it in the car and ran outside and got it. It was Cricket he said?? Expecting a Spyderco he handed me an old CRKT AUS4 companion fixed blade. It had rusty jimping and the bevel looked like a saw blade from all of the chips and dings.

I said "very cool," always the gentleman and asked if I could touch up the edge for him. He got a dark look on his face and said that it didn't have to be that sharp according to this new teacher. I laughed and told him "bullsh*t you want a butter knife to fight with?" I think he figured I might bust it up because it was a $100 knife.

I pulled out 2 diafolds - coarse/fine and x-fine/xx-fine I gave it 20 passes (freehand) on each grit and took it to the 1 micron and .5 micron strops. I said "it's done" in about 10 minutes and he was dumbstruck to see his bevel looking new again and gleaming from the little bit of work I did. When I started It wouldn't cut paper and when finished I sat there and sliced strip after strip of paper as he was talking.

I told him (this man is an excellent martial artist and escrimador) that he needed to check back in with this new bladesman and question him about what the virtues of having a raggedy edge were? Now he has 2 very very sharp knives! That AUS4 is like thick tinfoil -- softest steel I've ever sharpened.

I LOVE IT! It's like when people used to say to me, "Oh yah, what can your karate do against my gun?" I'd say, "You have a gun on you?" And of course they'd say, "No, it's at home."

Great story CZIV.

Just own Hinderer? Just because I love my wife that doesn't mean I can't also love Jessica Alba. Besides, if I only owned Hinderer I wouldn't have just bought this little guy...DSC01931.jpg

Nice score strider214! I've got a slew of Izulas and an RC-3 & RC-4 for hide-out fixed blades, and find them good for what they're made for (all purpose). I need something like yours. I've refined the edges over the years until they're insanely sharp but they have no real piercing abiities. I have a hankering to dump them though and purchase another Street Beat which I never should have sold. I hated the sheath on it and should have had one made instead of selling it. Like I've been doing, I need to keep culling the herd. I have a lot of fixed blades and am just too lazy to sell them. Time to get the camera out and sell some of them and maybe the NIB BM 940 that's been collecting dust for 2 years.

I just picked up this custom with a Kydex and Tek-Loc for cheaper than the Spyderco Street Beat. This particular knife fills a gap rather nicely.

There is no knife that can do everyhting although the XM-18 is as close as I've seen. I'm like you in that I need to cull the herd. My herd is relatively small but I have knives that serve an overlapping purpose of others and do it better. My wife gave me a Syderco ATR once and it's still in the box and I don't know what to do with it.

Great story! Not sure if folders suck but, then again in my martial arts experience I never dealved into edge weapon training much past basic CQC technique with a bayonet. More Kubaton and then just traditional combat tactic stuff (Shotokan).
The only knife I would be leary of having sharp is a Balisong but I don't play with those either:)

(nice knife Strider!!)

Hey strider, how about a complete run down of the "specs" on your custom? Including steel, where you purchased it and who made your sheath.

Maker can be found on blade forums.

Seems like a nice guy and does quality stuff at a great price. I don't know how much more I could say on a manufacturers forum such as this. I probably shouldn't have even put up the link. Here's to hoping Rob and Rick won't mind. I've never been banned from anything before:eek:
