To SH-E or not to SH-E???

Well it's official. I just dropped the hammer on the SH-E early this morning. I should have the beauty by Friday. Now the hard part. THE WAIT!!!

Im sure youll like it, I have BM-e and love the handle. I want a BA-e next and probably SH-e if one crosses my path.

Well I did it and it arrived today. This is one serious knife. Incredible balance and I absolutely love the feel of the E handle. Here is a photo, provided by the previous owner, of the knife and the two sheaths that came with it

Excuse me while I go bond with it. Things need to be chopped.

Congrats on the new slab of INFI, Tyrk! And don't hold hold back when you're beating the @#$% out of it. It'll just go to show you made the right choice. Enjoy!:D

TL,

Congratulations on your SH-E! It's a good knife, and you got 2 nice sheaths to go with it.

I have never had a problem with the way the E-handle looks; for me with medium size hands, I finally realized the height of the handle is just a bit too much to be as comfortable as it could be.

Congrats bro. Good to hear you got it. Got yourself a Dwayne pin-lock sheath to go along with it. Dwayne does some real nice work with his sheaths.

Hey that micarta looks really dark in the pic you got posted. It's black canvas isn't it? It wasn't until the other day that I actually heard of a different config on those models. There was one posted on the Exchange that was DC with snakeskin. I wasn't aware that Jerry did em in that config. I've only seen the black on black and I think some had the green handles. Maybe the one you got has just been fondled with sweaty palms! :D

The handle is really dark in the pic because the knife had a thin coating of oil (olive?) from the privious owner to preserve things. I have washed it off since and the handle is lighter. And man, this is a serious chopper. I took huge chunks out of a tree in my backyard and was still shaving sharp. This one's a keeper. My wife even like it so I have to hide it from her. ;)

Another member mentioned to me, when I complained about the same thing(height of handle), that he had Jerry grind down the hump on the back and it worked perfectly. Of course, this was after I sold it and never got to find out, but it sounds more than reasonable.

Hmm. Grinding the hump on the back didn't hurt the temper? Has anyone had this done and do you have a pic or two I could cee? Still, the E handle feels fine to me but I haven't really pushed it yet.

Rob,

Thank you for the tip; I might have Jerry modify an SH-E or NO-E for me. When I hold an E-handle tightly, it is the hump that is somewhat uncomfortable.

Tyrkon,

I don't think grinding on the handle would cause any problems with the temper of the blade (though I'm not an expert in this area), and if I remember correctly, INFI can take more heat that some steels without being adversely affected. I vaguely remember seeing pictures of modifications like this someone did - I will look through my files to see if I can find them.

A butt grind on the NOe looks way cool. Gives it a BAe look but in a longer blade config! Haven't seen a SHe done this way. Go for it! Would like to see how it turns out.

I did a bit of chopping today. Light and heavy. The E handle feels perfect to me. Go figure. And when I was finished the blade was still shaving sharp. This is one amazing knife. :D
