To Slice - Push or Pull?

When slicing what cut do you prefer the pull or the push or does it depend on the material. I find with leather I use the pull method but with rope the push stroke works best for me.

I have a mental scar to go with the physical one after pulling my very sharp SRK 2 inches into my thigh a few years back. Pushing only for me.

It depends on the knife and the material. It takes a sharp knife to push cut cleanly, and some of them aren't going to hold an edge like that. I also like my knives long enough for the job -- no sense push cutting halfway through a roll and then having to turn the roll to cut through the other half. But if at all possible, I do tend to push cut.

For me it depends most on how the support for the material I am cutting is arranged. If I am cutting a stack of things and I'm securing the stack with my fingers I sometimes push. I would guess that 95% of the time I pull.
