I'm pretty new to selling on the exchange, so far so good.

The other day I sold two knives in a package deal to buyer X. Within a couple of hours, X had resold the knife to somebody else (Y) and Y asked me to ship to him directly - which I didn't. I shipped to X. I don't mind at all that X sold the knife at a profit - I have my own rules for setting sale prices (what I bought the knife for minus a discount), and once I'm paid it's the buyer's knife, period. But: for me, a transaction is complete when the buyer receives the item (s)he bought and lets me know (s)he's happy.

I know like most of you how exciting it is to receive a new knife. But, some of us don't live on BF, don't use BF for the exchange only, don't use the exchange professionally, have a job, etc. Also stuff can happen, at the personal level, or with the carrier who can delay or even loose the item, it can get stolen from your porch, etc. Rare, but sh*t happens.

Slow down please.

I would’ve just canceled the sell and refunded the buyer. Some sketchy stuff there. Never ship to anyone but the original buyer. And never ship to any address but the PayPal verified address if good and services were used. Also how he sold the knife before he had it in his possession breaks rule 1 here. Please report this guy to the mods.

Sellers/Selling -
  1. Be 100% sure that you want to sell the item, have it in your possession and clearly list the TOTAL selling price

Selling an item before you even have possession of it can lead to nothing but trouble for all parties involved. I don't see it specifically spelled out in the rules, but have to believe it is extremely frowned upon.
deferring to another buyer is different, an OK if all agree. In this case the total sale would be done with the second buyer They would be the responsible party and it would be at the original price

Right/Agreed on all fronts, but you're assuming it got listed by the buyer and resold here as a new for sale thread. A little detective work shows that isn't the case. The buyer messaged the other guy if he wanted one of the two knives in the package he bought via profile message. The rule doesn't apply for that.

I actually assumed it was done by PM., but that doesn't solve any of the problems with the transaction, just may not make it an offence they will ban you for(which I have nothing to do with). 1st buyer is selling something he has not even seen or can guarantee quality, condition or even delivery of and seller is mailing to an address other than the buyers(1st) that paid him. This is a disaster just waiting to happen. As OP says-just slow down. Once the original buyer has it and completed the buy , he can sell it.

Yes.... these kinds of flippers that think they can get rich by making $15 on a flip are ruining the fun of "collecting" knives. Buying nearly any knife on here has gotten to be so mercenary, it's just taken nearly all the pleasure out of it.......

Obviously, receiving and then shipping the item reduces profit. I'm curious - you don't have to identify the person; but does he at least have a membership that allows him to sell? If not, I'll be more than happy to report the shenanigans 😁

Let's not do that, please. Plus, sale was via PM only, I understand.

I was just making a general comment. More along the lines of hornetguy hornetguy

I understood your reason for posting; but, if he didn't have a membership that allowed sales, his action was even less okay (and I would have reported that violation).

How unlike you...

(I couldn't resist.)

Blues Blues <shrug> consider me stopped
I'm not admonishing you...I'm laughing at and with you.

I know that most mornings I will sign on and see a couple hundred of your reported posts. What more could someone look forward to? ☺️

You have to be true to yourself. I just got a kick out of your post above.
