To Spark; Discord server hatred

I tried to post an invite to my Discord server, "Knife Nuts," and was bombarded with prejudice. Spark, if you understand tech as much as I'm told, you understand that Discord is not a website, or a forum, nor does it replace forums, and neither I nor they profit off of people using it. All I want to do is supplement the knife community, in general, with a communication tool. We already have Dutch Bushcraft Knives on board, and Cutlery Lover should join soon. It will be growing, and can grow faster with your help. Maybe a pin, with your approval, for a week or so is all I ask.

Thanks

Just because some people posted that they didn't like the idea doesn't mean that they hated it or you, or that they are prejudiced against you or Discord. If you truly think anybody who doesn't happen to think your ideas are very useful are prejudiced against you you really won't get very far on BF.

If nothing else, the a Moderator stated that this isn't a forum where they support the advertising of what amounts to a competitor.

I am a paying member here because I appreciate the environment that it offers. I understand that you may be trying to drum up business and members, but you do realize that it may actively take members away from here.

What I saw was clear prejudice. They refused to try it, or even Google it, and then passed judgment on it, without the faintest idea of what it is, or how it works. That is what prejudice is.

Its not a competitor because it makes no more money from people using it. I'm not drumming up business because I make no money from people using it.

I'd suggest you brush up on the rules. Especially #1.

Get over it. The long time knife enthusiasts are comfortable with what they have. We don't need any children telling us what's best for the community.

You know what. I think the community here has really shown what it has to offer.
And here I was thinking somewhat the same about your discord server. Once the administrators of a server make their character clear it's much easier to decide if you want to be a part of the community they're building. I'll take a hard pass on your Discord server, thanks.

Usually when someone I don't know over the Internet tells me to "try" something, I tend not to. Especially when they tell me to "Google" it. What is this "Google"? It sounds dirty.

You have tried one thread (aside from this one), is that correct?

Have you tried to be part of the community? Did you actually engage in conversations, offer advice, ask for input, et al?

Or was your only attempt at communication on here only an attempt to draw folks to your community that you want to build?

That is pure assumption on your part, for all you know everybody who commented out in more than enough time researching Discord before coming to their conclusions about it.

You came here with prejudice already I place and when only a couple people posted who didn't like your idea you immediately started badmouthing the forum, and continue to do so. That is the prejudice here, not the reception you got on your first thread.

What this community has to offer is an archive with over a million threads posted that covers nearly every aspect of sharp pointy objects. I can easily search for topics of interest or a question and usually find what I'm looking for. If not, then I can post a new thread and have a answer in (usually) a timely fashion. I can also buy, sell, and trade with folks that hold similar interests.

I can see the benefits that Bladeforums has to offer.

This right here can sum up a lot of the apprehension you're feeling. Apprehension and unfamiliarity, not prejudice.

so you're mad that a mod removed your previous ad? "hey, click my link"..."hey, check out my discord server"...this is spam, plain and simple. i actually am a paid member so that i do not see advertisements. sigh.

and what you call "prejudice" may just be folks not wanting to join your service. have you considered that?

your link actually just took me to a sign-up page. i had no idea what i was supposed to be signing up for. so, i had to search for what the heck discordapp was. it does not seem like you're trying to educate. again, it seems that you are trying to market...to sell. my guess is that you get "20 free tokens" for everyone you get to sign up? something like that??

Don't use Discord. It's spyware that records all sounds even when it's turned "off."

I know exactly what Discord is and how it works and I have no interest in it.

Sorry. The purpose of BF is not to send posters to other web sites that do what BF does.
Link removed.
thread Closed.

I believe this was the ending to your thread. I am the mod who closed it.
The rule below is why:

Solicitation:
Asking a member to click on a link, subscribe to a channel or website, provide feedback, donate money or goods, sign an online petition, or “Like” a page on Facebook is considered solicitation. Our members should not be subjected to this type of spam especially under the guise that they may win something. Spark (Site Admin.) does occasionally authorize solicitations for carefully selected causes. Persons seeking such an exemption MUST apply to Spark and MUST wait to receive that authorization before making any such posts.

Think of it as an extension of blade forums rather than all this political bs.

the rules are rules, but this is not a bladeforums replacement. its not going to take away from the forums in any stretch of the imagination.

If Bladeforums wanted to start a discord server I might think about. Given, instead, that it's the OP's server and is in absolutely no way associated with Bladeforums, much less an extension of it, still a very hard pass. Go join, have fun, just don't spam it at us.

I don't recall there being any rule that says members here have to accept or like your site.

Actually the rule that knarfeng posted makes no mention of the content of the site being linked to at all. So, if, as you are arguing, "rules are rules," then it doesn't matter whether the site is a direct competitor or not.
