To Spark; Discord server hatred

What I saw was clear prejudice. They refused to try it, or even Google it, and then passed judgment on it, without the faintest idea of what it is, or how it works. That is what prejudice is.

Its not a competitor because it makes no more money from people using it. I'm not drumming up business because I make no money from people using it.

Breaking the anti spamming rules aside, a sufficient number of posters rejected your "idea" and that may not be prejudice...... that may be
that you just got out voted by a democratic process.

If the horse is dead, no amount of beating will make it rise up again and work. Stop beating this dead horse!

I tried to post an invite to my Discord server, "Knife Nuts," and was bombarded with prejudice. Spark, if you understand tech as much as I'm told, you understand that Discord is not a website, or a forum, nor does it replace forums, and neither I nor they profit off of people using it. All I want to do is supplement the knife community, in general, with a communication tool. We already have Dutch Bushcraft Knives on board, and Cutlery Lover should join soon. It will be growing, and can grow faster with your help. Maybe a pin, with your approval, for a week or so is all I ask.

Here is the link: https://discord.gg/NfSzccy

Thanks
You posted a solicitation, and it was taken down and the membership responded in accordance to that rule. You can call it whatever you like, whatever makes you feel justified in using the term "prejudice". You neglected to read the simple rules here and didn't get what you wanted and made a mountain of a mole hill. Bladeforums does not now or has it ever to my recollection hosted fan forums. The issue of profit is secondary. The primary issue here is very simple, solicitation is not allowed, period. Whether you call it racism or prejudice shows a great deal of pure ignorance. This community has been around just under 20 years and it has a lot of due hardcore and loyal fans that are in the tens of thousands. Your argument makes no sense. So, best of luck to you in your own endeavor.

So let me preface this by saying I landed on this thread because I was looking for a knife forums' discord where I could jump in and ask some basic questions that would be annoying to post a bunch of threads about. What I found instead was, one guy who tried to start one, and a bunch of rude ass people telling him off about spam and stealing business. Really a total turn off to your community in general, given how it seems there were only 1-2 people here that even knew what Discord is, and no one bothered to look into it (or listen to OP trying to explain it) just a little bit and just made some wild assumptions and told the OP to basically get lost.

Discord is a chat program. It is not a forum. It's a program for people to socialize, and talk to each other in real-time VS posting on a forum and waiting hours or days for a response. It keeps your forum cleaner, because all of the idle chatter can be in discord and actual content threads can be on the forum.

Basically every other forum I am apart of has its own Discord server, just like they have their own Facebook page or twitter account. Yet some of the responses here are just downright tinfoil hat, ignorant, or straight-up old curmudgeon "damn kids these days, I been doin' this for 20 years! -shakes cane-"

Ignorance is truly an amazing thing. Let me offer some counterpoints here, first to the moderator who shut him down to begin with:

I get it. Some random guy made a discord server and posted it here, and that didn't fall in line with your rules, you didn't understand what it was, so you told him to get lost. A more level headed response could have been, take 5 minutes to look into what your community member was trying to suggest, and say hey man look sorry you are not affiliated with us, so I took your link down, however I looked into what discord is and we may consider starting our own official server, because it takes all of 30 seconds to make one, and its free, and all our community members could use it! We will consider it and/or mention it to other mods/owners to think about.

See by saying it this way, you didn't tell that guy to get lost, thus losing a community member, and also you got what you wanted and removed the link! And as a bonus, you may have even found a new tool that could benefit your community!

If nothing else, the a Moderator stated that this isn't a forum where they support the advertising of what amounts to a competitor.

I am a paying member here because I appreciate the environment that it offers. I understand that you may be trying to drum up business and members, but you do realize that it may actively take members away from here.

It's not a competitor, there is no business he's trying to drum up or make money on, he's just trying to offer a new addition to the things you already have. By this logic, the BladeForums facebook and twitter pages should be deleted, as those are competing platforms to the forum.

Get over it. The long time knife enthusiasts are comfortable with what they have. We don't need any children telling us what's best for the community.

Wow. Damn kids these days amirite?! Change is scary. While we are at it, let's just go ahead and tell all of the knife makers to stop making new knives, the designs that are out right now are fine, we have had them for years, no one wants anything new, innovation and change are not good. Don't want any of those kids growing up into knife guys right? They might start buying blades! The horror!

Usually when someone I don't know over the Internet tells me to "try" something, I tend not to. Especially when they tell me to "Google" it. What is this "Google"? It sounds dirty.

Ignorance can be fixed by reading and learning, refusal to learn leads to stupidity, for which there is no cure.

You have tried one thread (aside from this one), is that correct?

Have you tried to be part of the community? Did you actually engage in conversations, offer advice, ask for input, et al?

Or was your only attempt at communication on here only an attempt to draw folks to your community that you want to build?

You sir make a fair point! The OP only had a handful of previous posts, so it seems he was a new community member. See my above comment to the moderator, who told him to get lost and locked his thread rather than trying to understand what he was asking for.

[......]
your link actually just took me to a sign-up page. i had no idea what i was supposed to be signing up for. so, I had to search for what the heck discordapp was. it does not seem like you're trying to educate. again, it seems that you are trying to market...to sell. my guess is that you get "20 free tokens" for everyone you get to sign up? something like that??

No, its literally just a server where you can chat with people. You don't get paid for it, it doesn't cost anything, and I don't know where you got free tokens from but you clearly didn't look into discord very hard.

Don't use Discord. It's spyware that records all sounds even when it's turned "off."

A few more layers of tinfoil on that hat and it will be bulletproof

Yeah, I took 20 minutes of my life to write that because the ignorance displayed annoyed me that much

Thanks for wasting your time on us, it’s very kind of you.

As for Discord, I know what it is. I’m 28, not some old man like you seem to think. It must be a generational thing to expect immediate answers and gratification to your questions. Doing the research yourself isn’t all that hard:rolleyes:

Thread necromancy. How ironic that the name of the "tool" is the definition of "disagreement between people", for one.

I likes my BF just the way it is.

TL;DR

I recommend some ointment for the pain in your nether regions and to go away and stop necroing three-year-old threads to defend whiny idiots.

You have some knife related questions, but feel that you would be annoyed to post them and have to wait for answers? Have you tried using the search function to see if these questions have already been asked and answered at some point in the last 20 years? If you can't find the answers here, then please do post your questions, as they must be very interesting and unique.

I’m here for the chat an a little knife talk mixed in :D. So to me the “actual content” and the “idle chatter” are One in the same. That’s why I’m here and don’t need to “link” to anywhere else.
Avoided the ignorance here mostly, by reading the rules before posting.

Word to the mods, I think the job you do in keeping content threads “clean” an chatter where it belongs is phenomenal.

He did not ask us to start a discord server. He asked us to send our members to his server.

I did not ban him. I did not cuss at him. I did not call him stupid or a "damn kid". I did not tell him to get lost. I removed the link and closed the thread.
I fail to see anything insulting in that for someone breaking the site rules. If you do, then I think you lead a very sheltered life.

Had the OP bothered to read the site rules, he would have known that he needed to take up the issue with the Admin / Site Owner instead of starting a thread in the General Forum inviting members to go to his server.

Be very careful with the wording of any further responses. Your tone verges on sassing the mods.

Holy shit! My kid woke up and I thought I’d look around at random stuff... this has been comedy gold guys. From a societal hierarchy sort of view, the membership status on this particular thread is fairly indicative of how big an ass you are.. with whiny teenager-like gold members being belittling these guys to the point I think the mods should tell them to shut up and let big papa handle it, to the mods who - great job guys (no sarcasm) - made a decision, owned up to it, and justified their point of view.

Hardly, considering the biggest, most ignorant ass was the registered user that necrod this thread just to whine. Pretty much all the post prior in this thread, and definitely all the posts in the OP's GKD thread that prompted this politely explained the apprehension and general redundancy of a discord server. One he poorly explained what it was while we had to register to it to really see what it is (no thanks), and that he tried to create a BF server without an ok my the powers that be.

The OP and the necromancer are both ignorant and whiny for not understanding that it was not "hate" coming through, just apprehension and a feeling of redundancy regarding the proposed idea. Maybe to them they are on in the same.

Edit to add: I read this here recently and I believe it applies in this thread. To paraphrase whomever said it: the tone of your posts generally dictates the response you receive.

The irony on display here is honestly incredible.
