I have Benchmades & Spydercos but wanting to get a Strider SMF. I also have an RJ Martin Q36, Brandley Alias, CR Sebbie so what should I do? What is next and what should I get. More Production knives from various makers or pony up and get the Strider. Any Thoughts. I am 6' 8" about 320lbs A prefer lg folders. MY EDC has been a BM 710. Thanks

i like strider folders. well made, very tough.

i prefer the thinner blade and profile of the concealed carry versions, but being about as big as a redwood, it may not matter to you.

get the smf.

It's a nice knife, just not worth the cash for me. But, if you have more disposable income, go for it, it's a cool knife. Although I prefer the GB myself.

I bought an SnG 4 days ago and had a small problem so tried to call them. Called on Thur, Fri, Sat, and nobody has ever answered the phone nor called back after I left a message.

everyone who collects high end knives needs at least one Strider folder, especially one of the CC or Double Gunner Grips ones. Go for it!

That is unusual, I called with a question and got them first try about a month ago. What was the problem you had?

I would go with the SNG if you are looking for an EDC. Its smaller and is a nice carry package.

I will probably wind up with more than 1 but I could get 3-4 Benchmades & Spydercos for the price of a Strider. The SNG just looks to small for me. Compared to the CR sebenza, I want something bigger and I am used to a 4" blade carrying the BM710 for so long.

bigbob-

The choil on the SnG allows for more handle control and a better grip than you'd expect. Strider has the SMF which is a 4" version of the SnG - but it's a BIG knife, way thicker and beefier than the 710 or any other production 4" that I can think of.

Bladeplay and lockbar sticks. I think the sticking problem will go away after some break in, it's already sticking much less than when I first got it. As for the bladeplay I think the pivot needs some adjustment but I don't have a spanner tool, allen wrench, nor a soldering iron so I want them to fix it. It's just a tiny amount of play but after $400 I want it perfect.

I say go for the Strider.

Other large folders to consider:
Crusader Forge
Airkat Knives

Have you considered the Kershaw ZT series? Ken Onion AND Strider design input. BIG knives with outstanding fit and finish.

For knives as big and tough as you can find anywhere, look to the Extrema Ratio folders like the MPC.

I realize that they are totally different beasts, but I'd check out the Spyderco Military if you don't have one....My FAV. knife... Strider SnG CC comes in 2nd. Kinda whacked, when you consider my personal placement and their costs... The SnG is awesome, and the IDEAS it is built on are outstanding... if the blade was retained in the handle as good as the Millie, I'd put them at equal quality...but the Military is just a better knife.

Funny you mentioned the Millie because I have one of those coming along with a ZDP Endura. I am just still on my crusade to find the perfect knife, which I know will never happen, that is why I keep buying and selling.

When someone says, 'sharpened slab of steel' I think of Strider, not that there aren't other knives that fit that description also.

If you don't mind the size, then get the SMF. The handle design & blade choil are excellent ideas & the folder's just plain overbuilt (Like their other knives). I have an SnG as it fits my needs better.

If $ is an issue, & it sounds like it is from your comment of being able to buy several B/Ms instead, then I totally agree with the suggestion of the ZT 300 (However, you stated you have some knives that are in the price range of a SMF). Personally, I think it's a great knife, but too big & heavy for a pocket EDC (For me only, not necessarily for others). However, if carrying a SMF doesn't seem too big to do, then I'd certainly check out the ZT.

If you like a long blade, but lightweight, then the Military or even the Endura might end up being a better fit for you.

Good luck on whatever you get.

I say go for it. If you want the size of the SMF with better pocketability look into the CC models. I recently picked up a CC smf and it is great. All of the size and toughness of a SMF yet it carries as well as my SNG. I prefer larger folders and the SMF fits the bill.

I also reccomend you look for stone washed blade finishes they are soooooooo much smoother opening than the bead blasted finishes.

Personally, I'd Pass on Striders and Aircats. In a large folder I like the Kershaw 1416, XXL Starkey Ridge. They are long ago discontinued, but you see them once in a while.

My 40th birthday present was a Strider GB. At 1st I thought I would get an aftermarket belt sheath, but that has not been the case. It rides fairly well clipped in my right front jean pocket. Loving this knife.

As for getting a Strider, I say if you got the money go for it. I've had 4 Strider knives & each one was great. Even if you don't like it you should not have any issue selling it.
