To strip or not to strip...

A bench grinder works great with this kind of scotch brite. ;)

Just got done stripping down my SJTAC. The stripper did no harm at all to the micarta other than some slight discoloration that returned to normal after the oils in my hands worked their way in. The decarb layer came off after about 2 hours sanding by hand with 120, 180, 220 and 300 grits. Looks great but took a fair bit of work, AZTimT's scotchbrite method is probably the best way to go if you have a grinder.

Again thanks a ton guys  I don't have a grinder atm so I'll probably have to do it by hand or invest a little in a grinder. A few more stupid questions, how can you tell when you've removed enough decarb? Also how rust resistant is INFI without the decarb removed? I have a few uncoated blades in 1095 and 5160 and haven't had much of a problem with rust with and I know INFI is alot more rust proof than those.

do they make scotch brite sander belts like a 1x30 or 1x42? sharp if you haven't heard, going cheap harbor freight $45 makes a 1x30. kalamazoo 1x42 belt sander is the next step but about $250. great investments. i have a harbor freight but want to get a kalamazoo eventually.

No bench grinder here. I use an electric drill with a ScotchBrite wheel, set into a vise, lock it on medium speed and that's my ghetto bench grinder.

AFAIK you can't get ScotchBrite belts in 1x30. Would love to have some for my HF grinder.

Would also like Scotchbrite belts.
have looked for them with no luck.
I believe they do exist because I remember
Ban saying he uses them.

Pops Knife supply has the belts.
I have a few for my KMG but the belts are like 16.00 or 20.00
