Hey guys, I'm trying to salvage a knife that I thought I screwed up beyond repair. This was the second knife I ground and I made it to mirror the first but I ended up putting some deep gouges (sp) in it and gave up. I have since picked it up a few times but couldn't figure out what, if anything, I can do to fix it. I ended up grinding the blade thickness way down and taking off some length too. The handle was way disproportionate so I ground that way down. All in all I am more than happy with it so far and it has the potential to turn out to be my favorite but it has two issues. The first one is the taper. The blade is no longer 3/16 and the junction from the handle (at what is left of the ricasso) shows it when looking at the spine. In the end I may take a chance and try a tapered tang but I know I have to at least thin down the handle some more to match the blade.
The other thing is that the blade looks like it needs something. Maybe a lot of blades look this way at this stage but then again maybe it needs a swedge. There is a good chance I'll screw that up too but nothing ventured, nothing gained. So, should I add a swedge? Any other suggestions aside from scrapping it?
On a side note, I think I have learned more on this knife repair than my other four grinds combined.
The knife in question started out as the one on top.
And now...
