If a dude or dudette were in the market for one of the three Busse KKin blades, what would you recommend. Pretend price is no object, and performance in the field is the only concern. That and it will be this person's ONLY BLADE.

The three I'm speaking of are:

Any Battle Mistress model

Rodent 9

Sykco 911

Thanks for your responses. This is where the money I loaned (...) the government this year is going.

Battle Mistress !! And dress it to your flavor !:)

All great choices. But full tang is the go for an 'only blade' I reckon so the BM or the R9.

Battle Mistress.

For that size blade I'd have to agree battle mistress unless lil extra weight is a concern.

Best bang for your buck would be the SYKCO 911, but if you can swing a Battle Mistress I'd highly recommend one.

The easy button for the BM would be the Anniversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress, which you can order direct from Busse right now. It's very versatile and has great handling characteristics despite the beefy stock thickness (.31") thanks to the through handles drilled in the tang to alter the mass distribution and lighten the blade. The handle suits me just fine, though some have found it less than ideal for them in actual use.

I'd also recommend looking at the Bushwhacker Mistress CG, I had the pleasure of using one briefly last fall and there is a lot to like about it. Uses the thinnest stock thickness to date for a Battle Mistress at .187", yet thanks to the full convex grind it remains a very heavy duty contender w/ less carry weight.

Also, the Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress would be another great choice. This one is a beast, not as versatile in my opinion as the ASHBM or BWM CG. This is mainly due to the overall heft and forward weight, much better suited to bashing than finesse. .25" Full Convex Grind, 11.25" blade length.

All in all, you really can't go wrong with any of these. That being said, if you had any ideas as to what you'd mostly see it getting used for this would help us ultimately suggest the best choice for your uses.

Out of your 3 choices, I would recommend either the ASHBM or one of the Fusion BMs, depending on which handle feels best in your hand. I personally would choose either an ASHBM with canvas micarta or a Basic 11 – that is a tough choice. The Resiprene C grips on the Basics feel great!

ps, Uncle Sam says thanks for the interest-free loan, and feel free to give even more this year. ;) :D

ASHBM. Period.

The best cutting (full flat grind), most indestructible (1/3 inch thick at spine), best looking (based on arguably the most iconic knife ever designed by Busse--the original Battle Mistress), and best handling (improved grip ergonomics over the original SHBM, with lightened tang for balance) at a bullet-proof price (if you buy the base-price Combat Grade and hold onto it for at least a year after production ends, chances are excellent you will always be able to get your money out of it. Hold it for a little longer, and even if it's well-used, you can still probably recover your original investment).

I believe the ASHBM will be one of the all-time Busse grails of the future. We just won't become fully aware of that fact until some time has passed after production ends, and availability dries up.

I think that the CG FBM is the most versatile of all the BM line, the best all-rounder.

But Will is right, the ASHBM is a tremendous value right now. Users are going for great prices. I will absolutely grab one eventually.

I've only got experience with the Nuclear Fusion Meltown Battle Misstress.....and I love it. NEVER getting rid of it. That being said, understand this, they are heavy. I consider it as a hatchet or small ax that can do much more than an ax (cause it's a knife, obviously;) ).

Any of the BMs, alone, or matched with a smaller knife ( small saw too, ideally). Will get you through plenty of campsite duties.

One of the classics, must haves Busses:thumbup:

Original SHBM line, nothing matches it. The new lines are awesome, but the original line had something extra that is not there today, besides a more individualized attention in manufacturing. I would even take the BM-E line over the new lines because of this. and the ZT BM-E's are amazing.

I find the nine inch blade length to be the perfect size for my tastes. My ASHBM is just a wee bit too big und heavy. But for you? May be perfect...Cheers.

CGFBM is what I will suggest. I know a lot of people love the SH originals. Besides the current availability, I cannot stand the feel of them in my hand (I am a minority in this). Try anything before you buy. There are lots of folks around to meet and greet.
