Some people say that the AFCK is one of the best knives that Benchmade has ever made. I come to the scene late and never have the chance to handle one, and is unlikely to get one in future now that this model had been discontinued. To those lucky brothers who have had the AFCK, can you tell us the good (or the bad) points about this knife?

I have 3 of the small plain edge black coated ones. One of them in M4 steel and two in ATS-34. The best feature in my opinion is the fantastic ergonomics. I really like the serpantine style blade shape and spyderco hole opener. I picked up the large axis version and it is also outstanding also. If you keep your eye open and are willing to pay a premium you will probably find one. They are the classic benchmade to me. Only knife I have ever had that rivals the original Spyderco Calypso Jr. AUS-8 steel micarta handle.

I’ve never owned one but if you really do want one. They show up on the exchange here from time to time.

I have one of the small ones, and it's amazing. I really wish I'd picked up a couple of the larger ones when I had the chance. I had several friends who used to carry them, but I was big into Spyderco at the time. The large AFCKs are the nicest production tacticals ever made, IMO. The ergos are perfect. The balance is perfect. Everything about them is "just right". Not to mention that they are absolutely gorgeous. If you ever happen across one- buy it! Or better yet- tell me about it, so I can buy it instead.

It's a nice knife, has good balance. I think there's better today, but it's a classic.

It's sleeker than Spyderco's Military, I don't think it locks in my hand as well. I always thought these two from B/M and Spyderco compared rather well. With the Mili being a better slicer and the AFCK a better sticker.

Have a Mini-AFCK, was the first tact/liner lock, pocket clip style knife I bought. Good looks, materials (all new to me at the time. ATS-34, G-10), ergonomics etc. In fact it was the most I ever paid for a pocket knife.......was all down hill after that lol. Still have it, its a keeper.

BIG rumor says that BM is re-introducing it w/an Axis lock and M4 Steel (for the steel snobs?)...No release date, yet.

Ive had a few afcks. The four nicest ones an 806D2, 800HS M2, 800BT2 Special and an 806-701 I could'nt force myself to carry because they were expensive collector pieces. Also the large afcks are just that, very big knives, too large for me to carry. The 806D2 had an incredibily smooth action and great ergonomics with the axis lock placement fitting my hands perfectly. It was also a beautiful knife imo, just too large to edc. I bought a mini afck recently with the spyderhole and really liked the size of the knife but decided to sell it because of the tip down carry. The last two I have left are the 806-701 and the 800BT2 Special which I'll probably keep for a while or until another knife comes along I just have to have.:)

If you Google 'Benchmade 806M4' you can find a post on the BM forum from a BM employee confirming it is going to be produced. I WILL have one (along with the framelock Military coming soon).

I have a fully serrated 800 and a PE 806D2. The 806 was my EDC for about five years until it was replaced with a WilkinsGrip and then a Chuck Gedraitis custom shortly thereafter. Frankly, the 806 was a marriage of almost every desirable feature a knife can have, especially the later production with the multiple carry options. I like the Axis lock and I like the Spyder hole--the AFCK or the Griptilian are the only two knives I'm familiar with that combine those features unless you count the ball lock D'Allara as an Axis wannabe.

I bought a second 550 Griptilian and some aluminum barstock with the thought of eventually creating a set of fully-lined micarta scales and transplanting the blade and lock into them. Who knows how many years it will be before I get around to that, but it should be interesting.

i have an old AFCK in ATS-34 combo edge, it was my first high quality knife and has served well in many duties, fits my hand well and it does look great, i now have about 40 knives in my collection and this one is still a favorite. my only complaint is that it is too big to edc

The AFCK and 705 are two Benchmades that I kick myself daily for not picking up when I had a chance.

I played with an AFCK in a store years ago and said "if I still want it next time I'm here, I'll get it." I never made it back.

If there is a new version and I can get my hands on it for less than $150, it will be mine, I won't let it slip by again.

i used to collect BM's and have had i bet a dozen AFCK's, mini's, M2's, prototypes, pre-pros,axis, etc and they are good knives no doubt, the only con imho is a lot were tip down carry which i dont care for, i remember when they 1st disco'd them NGK had 800's for IIRC $59.99(maybe $69.99, one of the 2) which was a helluva lotta knife for the money, i bought 3 and gave them to buds for x-mas and all 3 are still going strong AFAIK.

imho the axis AFCK is still one of the top knives around and is still my fav BM by far.

i still have a M2, an axis prototype and a 800S all LNIB and have a user 800S.

a store in my area had a 800S for IIRC $99 a few weeks ago i started to grab it but hey i already have 2 lol.

I still think my 812 is the best feeling knife ever in my hand, and the ATS-34 rarely needs a touch up and then it is so easy. The only negative is the liner lock, but it's never let me down.

I have three; two in ATS-34 and an axis lock version. One of the ATS-34s
is NIB and has not been carried. The other has been my weekend EDC for years. The axis lock version is heavier and too long to fit the BM
softsheath so I am stuck with the despised pocket clip. It doesn't see much carry time.
Not a worry, though, as the liner lock on my ATS-34 knife has been flipped
thousands of times with virtually no wear. The other posters have it dead on
about the perfect ergs and balance. I will never sell this knife.

I have an 806 too, I don't consider it a true "AFCK", because it doesn't have the round hole. If the new M4 806 has a round hole, it will be a winner for sure.

Not that the 806 is any slouch- it's great, but I like the look of the round hole much better.

I still have my small in ats-34, but traded my large here last year.

To me its one of the best looking folders ever made. I don't care for the feel of the drop in the handle though, much prefer a straight handle like on my sebbies.

I own over 200 knives, folder and fixed combined. I have a full sized combo edge with G-10 scales. It was my EDC on and off duty for years. I would have to place it in my top 5 of all favorites. As mentioned here, great ergonomics.

Thanks to all who posted nice pictures of their knives, it makes me want the thing more!

With regard to the M4 version this is what I find from the Benchmade forums. I hope the moderators won't treat it as product advertising.

Going forward, we'll be sure to post new product announcements (NPAs) on the info section of the forum. Our policy is to do that only when a product is actually available for sale. In the past we have made the mistake of saying something is coming and then, for whatever reason, couldn't deliver. No one wins in this scenario.

With regards to the 806...the product is in development and will be brought to market in the coming months. Details are still TBD. We thank you for your continued patience. Regarding the accidental deletion of the original thread, this was a software glitch, plain and simple. We're sure you’d agree that we'd be fools to intentionally delete a topic that captivated so many participants on the forum.

Please keep the comments and posts coming."
