To use or not to use....

I just received a ZT 0551 that I shamelessly spent too much money on. I absolutely love this knife and it feels great in the hand. The question is, do I keep it on the shelf since it is a limited edition and pick up a 0550 when they come out or just put this beauty in my pocket and use it. What would you do?

Why shelf it? Is it an investment? Trust me, it will never appreciate that much.

^^^ i agree.

i have an LE ZT 0350CB. does the rarity bother me? nope. i use and appreciate it.

There's nothing as sad as letting a good knife sit on the shelf!

Ok, maybe that's a bit of a hyperbole :p

I don't see the point of buying an LE knife with a better steel and not use it, though. I would use it.

Use it. Knives that don't get use are no better than images on the web, and much more expensive.

Use it. Gotta do something to keep yourself from dying of boredom in Kansas.:D

Elmax is a higher performance steel than S35VN. It'd be a shame not to use it.

If you want a safe queen, I'd suggest something in damascus with plenty of color. Something like a Benchmade Gold Class knife.

Okay, that sold me! And yes, it will help with the boredom here in Kansas although we're just trying to stay out of the way of all these nasty tornadoes!

Knives at any price point are not that great of a investment. It's not like we are talking about a jeweled knife. Use it, that's what all ZT knives are built for. I know it's hard to make that first cut or scratch but to really get a connection with the knife, it has to be used to make memories with.

If you want to invest , invest in something that is universally recognized as a form of currency , i.e gold and silver. Knives are a poor investment if your only ploy is to make a profit , by that I mean how many knives actually keep their value and go up ? Sure some makers are hot right now like Hinderer but there is always someone hotter down the road , that's how it works.
It's your call , did you buy it to sit in your sock drawer only to be admired when you watch TV , or did you buy it because you appreciate owning and using a quality tool. Maybe you bought it because you collect knives simply for the joy of collecting , maybe you have a few hundred also sitting in your sock drawer , I don't know..
I say use it , use it hard , use it like you own it ( and not like it owns you ) ;)

Most knives are a horrible investment. If you use it and enjoy it, and find out later that your used ZT would've double in price, you'll shrug your shoulders and be glad you used your knife.

Use the hell out of it. It's an awesome knife. If not, then sell it and wait for the 0550.

1,000 being made, so price is not likely to go up dramatically.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think its the first ZT/Hinderer collab, which could add some collector value.
But overall it seems a users to me also.
