I have a Cattaraugus hobo knife that has a partially broken handle and the bone handle is a bit loose - can I use a tad of super glue under it to hold it in place or is there a special glue that is to be used to glue bone to copper liner?? Also, how do you get this thing apart (knife and fork separate)...this is a two piece hobo knife. Thanks for any imput !!!

I suggest epoxy over super glue when it comes to handle materials.

Epoxy is stronger than super glue and JB Weld is stronger than cheap drugstore epoxy.

The way they come apart varies between different designs. Try sliding it in various directions. Don't force it; it shouldn't take a lot of force.... If you can post a picture in The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum somebody will tell you exactly how to open yours.

Definitely epoxy....it'll make a huge difference if the bone is warmed with a hair drier BTW. It helps draw the epoxy into the pores of the bone (or wood).

I think your knife is relatively valuable. Don't use super glue or epoxy on it. Find out it's desirability, and let a professional fix it.

It possible remove the bone clean of any old adhesive and reglue using JB weld.

I used some loctite two-part epoxy - and very, very little...just enough to put under the edge...it seems to be doing the job. This is a beater knife anyhow...so I don't have a problem that it's not perfect. It has some bone missing...and the main blade is missing about 1" of it's original length...but it's a great carry knife.

IIRC gorilla glue is expanding poly foam glue, so it could spread the joint, but would work if you clamped it, the clear may be different im not sure.
