To wave, or not to wave?

Hey all. I'm hooked on Spydies now. It's official. I was thinking of next getting a Delica. The Endura is a tad bit too big, as here in Colorado, the blade length limit is 3.5". So a Delica would fit the bill. My question to you guys is, Do I get a waved Delica or without one? What are the pros and cons of a wave? I saw a guy on youtube use a waved Endura, opening and closing it, and that just looked fun. So I thought, "That could be me!" So thanks in advance for the Replies.

hi there! first of all both knives are an excellent choice.
i had the same doubt hen i bought my first endura and i chose the waved version.

a few things about the wave:

on the good side
1- it's super addictive.
2- it works really well and it's faster than an auto.
3- once you mastered the correct movement it is going to be almost 100 reliable.

things i don't like about it
1- when in public you have to remember to pull the knife away from the seam or sheeple will get sometimes worries about that menacing "sort of switchblade" that you just popped open straight from the pocket. (more with the endura i guess).
2- sometimes (when you are trying to not wave the knife) the knife will get stuck inside the pocket.
3- it really does ruin the pants... i snapped off the corner rivets from the pocket of two levis jeans in a month. (perfect with carrhart hevy duty pants.
4- if you wear dress pants..... you'll come back home in your underwear because waving the knife will ripp them off like male stripper pants!!!!!

(maybe i exagerated this last one a bit)

my final words:

the wave is a very nice feature and it works well (better than emerson's).

but

if this is your first spyderco i would go with the original design. everybody should own a delica or an endura in my opinion. spydies are addictive and a huge bang for the buck and you are going to get the waved one anyway a few weeks later.

i would probably go for a waveless delica in zdp if you can find one. well worth the difference in my opinion if you don't sharpen yourself.

fred.

Yeah I'm in the same position as SavageChavez. I picked up a Cara Cara, love it, and now I want to a "real" Spyderco. Endura is too big for an EDC here in NJ so the Delica, wave or no wave. . .I'm going with the wave.

I just got a waved Delica. I'm in love! It only took a couple of tries to have the action down, and it's really fun to have the knife open and lock as fast as you can get it out of your pocket.

i bought the waved d4 before i got the regular one. the waved one aint bad, but sometimes i would have trouble with the blade opening and catching on my pocket when i didnt want it to open. it seemed like the wave got in my way a lot, so i got the regular one which i like better. thats only my opinion though, i know some people on this forum who love their waved d4 more.

I will never carry a non-waved knife now since I bought my Endura wave. Once I got used to it I have had no problems having it open when I didn't want it to. Its the best one handed opening system in my opinion.

The wave works, as advertised. However, I don't like it. I don't usually carry my knife cliped to my pocket and enjoy flipping the knife open the old fashion way.

2 pair of pants in a month. i wonder how many pairs u have. lol i waved a delica myself and use it every day and havent worn out a pair yet.

I say get the waved delica. Its a great knife. The wave feature also works as a bottle opener.

If you look at it, the wave is there if you need it. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

wow spydies must sure be harder on pants when waving them than EKI, i have been carrying waved EKI's for yrs now and on mine the pocket clip causes more wear by far than the wave.

go figure i suppose lol.

The wave can be a pain at times. If you're not expecting to need to panic-open your knife in the case of some emergency, but rather for regular utility use, go without the wave.

why not just pull it outta the pocket and thumb it open vs waving it??

it seems like folks dont understand ya dont have to wave it open every single time, all it takes is a slight twist of the wrist (opposite the way ya would twist to wave it) and it comes outta the pocket like any other knife.

i just dont understand.............

I agree. I carry a Delica Wave with My Tasman Salt SE everyday. If I want to wave it I do, if not I dont. It doesnt take long to get the hang of it. Most of the time I pull it out and open with the hole.

I just wanted to have the wave option personally.

The Zip Tie mod works well on the Delica and it is FREE. It is also reversable if you decide you don't want it to open via the Wave. I zip tied my Centofante 4 and it is a dream. The Cent 3-4 are better than the Delica for my uses and they seem much more refined.

I have a waved Endura and I love it, just ordered a waved Delica yesterday. I also have a Delica ZDP, so in my opinion, you're not going to go wrong either way.

Still, the wave action is great, can be used to open bottles, and after a little practice, I have no problem at all removing the knife from my pocket without waving it (careful at first though!) I don't carry my waved Endura every day, it rotates with about 6 other knives, but I haven't noticed any significant pocket wear. That said, I'm not a heavy user.

Thanks for all the imput guys. I'll have to go with a waved delica, because as some of you said, you can still take it out without having it open on you because of the wave. Thanks again, and I'm sure I'll have other questions in the future.
