Today I realized how crazy sharp my knives are

I was headed out to hunt this morning and this big doe was standing by my truck in the driveway. So, I stuck it with an arrow and didn't go hunting! What a relief, because today was closing day for bow season. I was starting to get nervous that I'd be eating tag soup this year. I was shooting down hill, so the entry hole is high on purpose so the arrow could pass through more organs. It hit both lungs and severed a major artery. The deer only took one step, fell down, and that was that.

Anyway, the hunting knife I made for this year's hunting season was so darn sharp I had to be extra careful. Almost zero pressure was needed when cleaning it. My skinner was the same story. I gave both a quick test afterward and they both still shave my arm hair with no effort. It sure is satisfying to clean an animal with a knife I made.

I don't plan to clean the blade beyond the fat chunks. That way it will look better mounted next to the skull.

What a good day. I still have time to catch a few salmon next to my house before the sun goes down!

Take care,
Brook

Brook, KICK ASS!!!!!!!!! Enjoy your porch beef :D Nice knife looks like it did the job very well!

Thanks Sam. I've been on a period knife kick the last 6 months or so. I've sold more knives with hammer marks and leg bone handles than cleaned up blades with wood or horn. I made this one before my custom stamp came in.

Nice shot! and cool knife too!

A friend was telling me about how you can draw deer into your yard or even your garage if you wanted by placing a bucket of food and bringing it a little closer to the house every day. Well, he gets to the point where the bucket is on his deck and one morning about 2:30 am he's woken up by his doorbell ringing many times... He had the bucket so close the deer's ass was ringing his doorbell as it was feeding.

A nice doe for sure. That will be some delicious (not to mention healthy) eating! Season opens here soon.

Awesome knife as well!

That's funny!

You are living my dream. Great work, I mean fun, I mean work, ok BOTH!:D

Cool brah. Are you still located by chesaw/havillah? If so, we gotta meet up one of these days as I am in your neck of the woods and smithing and making knives too. I f not, maybe next summer...

Congratulations on a successful archery season and making a sharp knife. I cant believe that the archery season in your state is over already. Ours won't begin till next Saturday.

Sept 1-25, most places in Western WA are any deer. Muzzleloader season starts today or tomorrow.

There is a late archery hunt starting Nov 25. But I won't have time for that one.

I just moved back to Arlington. Got the smithy set up yesterday. I'll be back in June when the UW gets out and I'm done for good.

Look up Gary Eagle in Chesaw. I think he might be the best smith in the state. I worked with him at his place on and off over the summer. Super cool guy if you don't already know him.

It won't look very cool when the blood turns to rust. I'd at least clean the blade. Leave the blood on your handle if you must... Someday you might wanna give that knife to your grandson and he will certainly like it better rust free.
Nice job on the baldy!
