Today in class...

My girlfriend loves to hear about knives. She's always contemplating her first high end production folder (she's a big benchmade fan, already has two)...but she only bought her minigrip a month ago, so I'm sure it won't be too long.

I could never talk my ex into really carrying one regularly, she liked to carry one of mine when we went for hikes though. For some reason she really liked that I always carried a knife and would ask to use mine often.

yOU GO gIRL~! No Assumptions from me! I really enjoyed your first post in this thread and the mental image it provided.

That goes double for me ;). Is your Mini Grip purple? Let us know if your new knife buddy ends up getting one as well!!

Gina,

Welcome to the asylum!

I've bought my wife both a personalised Swiss Army Knife and a purple Mini-Grip. Despite this, she invariably leaves them at home, then asks to borrow my kit.

Oh well: half way there...

Gina, there is a member named Vess up in Canadawho does very nice file work on folders, giving them a classy appearance. I bought a file-worked Spyderco Crickert from him for my wife and she just loved it. I looked him up on the "Search" function and he now has a website: http://www.vessleatherworks.com/. Give him a try or ask your friend t give him a try if you are looking for somethong a bit upscale and different that has the sort of personal touches that many women like.

Once I graduate and save up some money I may very well do that! Thanks. And in response to those who were wondering my mini-grip is blue.

some friends of ours have daughters that carry knives. They were raised around guns and knives. They both carry crkt knives. Not high end knives, but they are just getting started with limited resources. The oldest about 21 ; told me a story about one of the guys in a class. The guy threatened to report her for carrying a knife on campus. She said that he saw the clip and asked her what it was.She told him that many of the guys in her class carry knives and it would be a good way to make many in the class diss-like him. He never said another word about the knife. and she kept carrying it.

...extremely intelligent, very nice, very finance-minded people who are very liberal and none of them have ever given me crap about my knives...

Now that's the correct use of the word 'liberal'!

ThreeWorlds said:
Yeah well in this case you can use it any which way you like and it doesn't make a difference ;)

It makes all the difference, even when used liberally. ;)
I was agreeing with you.
"Oppressive liberalism" is an oxymoron.
Intelligent, finance-minded, tolerant etc. are apt adjectives, even synonyms, for 'liberal' - at least for this one :)

Have you ever heard the saying "Assuming makes an ass out of u and me? Because you made quite a leap there assuming that I'm not liberal, a feminist, or god-forbid (pun intended) an atheist. I'm not saying that I am or am not any or all of the above. Religious and political views have their own section in this forum.

You seem to assume that he might care one way or the other.

knife content: my first grip will be a M2 Ritter, hopefully around the end of April.

Welcome aboard, Gina.
It IS a shame that more people dont realise what an invaluable tool a knife is. I EDC a SAK Explorer or A Buck/Stider 889 AND Gerber Shortcut & people ask to borrow my knife or ask me to cut stuff for them ALL day long. I even use the SAK to "unlock" our Secure cupboard at work when the push-button combination lock keeps jamming.
EVERYONE in the UK is SOOOOO anti-knife at the moment, do make sure that you treasure the freedom you have to carry such an essential tool.
Pretty soon all we'll be able to have here are kids plastic safety scissors.

It sounds like you're running afoul of the law simply by carrying your EDCs... Isn't that Buck a lock-bladed knife?

It takes more than "treasuring" freedom. Sometimes you have to speak out in favor of it, and denigrate anyone who tries to steal it legislatively. Is the U.K. too far gone? Dunno. But if you don't get a groundswell of people deciding to stand up for their rights (to carry knives, to carry -- or even own guns) then forget about it.

Start denying her the use of it. Ask her each time, "What's wrong with the knives I got you?"

Play hurt, too. Guilt will help. :D
