Today is Louisiana Switchblade Freedom Day! Knife Rights’ Louisiana Switchblade Ban Repeal, HB 892, goes into effect today. HB 892 repealed the total ban on switchblade knives in Louisiana and allows for the possession and carry of a switchblade knife provided it is not “intentionally concealed on one’s person.” That provision was necessary to gain the neutrality of the Sheriffs and the State Police and provides a defense against prosecution if the knife is inadvertently covered. Manufacture and sale of automatic knives is also now legal.

Allowing for the concealed carry of a switchblade in Louisiana is complicated because it would require a significant change to Louisiana’s concealed carry law. Knife Rights will continue to look for opportunities to fix this aspect of the law in the future.

NOTE: HB 892 did NOT include Knife Law Preemption which would have nullified all local bans. As such care must still be taken to check to see if a switchblade is legal where you reside or travel. For example, New Orleans still retains its ban on switchblades.

Knife Rights’ record of 29 bills repealing knife bans at the state and local levels in 21 states in the past 8 years is unrivaled. With your support, Knife Rights is rewriting knife law in America™.

So a pocket clip, clipped to the pocket would be fine?

So a pocket clip, clipped to the pocket would be fine?

A knife carried fully within a pocket and not visible, is concealed and would be a violation. A knife clipped to a pocket seems to be clearly not "intentionally concealed." Clipped to a pocket with an untucked shirt covering the pocket clip might likely be a violation

I would like to ask about California but, I'm not going to hold my breath. :(

Just to sum things up in this regard, Knife Rights is committed to protecting and defending the rights of knife owners throughout the country. Fiscal restraints mandate that our strategy must be to allocate the minimal resources at our disposal to where we have the best chance of making the most difference for the greatest number of knife owners. Turning around 150 years of bad laws in all 50 states will not happen overnight, but it will happen and we are making huge strides. 29 pro-knife bills passed in 21 states and 8 anti-knife bills defeated in 6 states is testament to that effort.

Our continued success in other states helps pave the way towards doing something in California and other difficult states down the road when the stars align. Nobody would have bet we'd accomplish repeal of Illinois' switchblade ban for most citizens of the state, for example. Every state in which we advance freedom for knife owners is another nail in the coffin of knife restrictions everywhere. By supporting Knife Rights now, and encouraging others to do so as well, you will help accelerate our progress dramatically. This anti-switchblade thing is so 1960s (West Side Story). Most of the adults from this time period are not active in anti-knife politics, anymore. I hope switchblades will be legal everywhere soon.

I celebrated by carrying these today!

Then i got stopped and got a driving award on my way to work. The officer didn’t even ask about the knife with pocket clip showing. Not that I want to have to explain lol! He was pretty nice guy considering.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I not complaining about what you guys do. And I understand why you tackle other states before CA.
I am complaining about how absurd California's elected officials act and some of the crazy knife and gun laws we have here.
