One of the greatest privileges we have as American citizens is the freedom to vote and have our voice heard in the election of our government. Please use that right today, many people on this board and else where defend this very right so that we can vote today without fear of persecution, torture, execution because of our beliefs or political views.

You owe it to yourself and your country to exercise that freedom today. So head to the polls today and let your voice be heard.

Thanks

Ren

I was second in line at 7:00 AM.

We had to wait 15 minutes while the ladies called the county offices to get instructions on how to start up the scanner that logs in the new paper ballots...

Vote Vote Vote. You say your vote doesn't count? It counts just as much as George Bush's vote. I vote, even though almost without fail my candidates don't win.

Besides, you lose your ability in good conscience to complain about politicians if you don't even bother to vote. That right there is worth the half hour you'll spend doing it.

And don't forget that there are a lot of local initiatives that your vote really will impact.

Well, I voted early this morning.
I do admit to some trepidation--since the poling place is a school, and of course, no weapons are allowed in the school. I have heard that dead people vote around here. (dead people=zombies) So whaddaya do when you can't carry a weapon and you see the zombies shambling towards you?

Luckily, I did not encounter any zombies inside. There were a few on parad outside, carrying signs for their favorite candidates. I didn't know that you could train zombies to do that.

Indeed.

Like Chicago, I was born in New Joyzy. We have election traditions, too.

I liked early voting so much, I did it a couple more times :)

I voted for Cthulu. The lesser evil given the choices.

I've never missed a vote. 'Cause ya can't bitch if ya don't vote. :) (of course, up here it doesn't really mean much since we only have a say in electing school trustees and weed 'n' feed application specialists. As for our "elected" MP's - well, the Prime Minister can pretty much tell them which way they should vote regardless of how their constituents want them to vote (can you say, "Bill C-68"?) That's "democracy", eh! :grumpy:

dereliction day

quietly voting
never a crowd
the people's voice
is never loud
a subtle hint
of what we want

elections close
with few to choose
the greater good
will always lose
the lesser evil
slipping through

Politicians depend on their base coming through for them. But the base is energized by radical rhetoric and policies to match. We need the undecided, non-partisan, disenchanted voter to force moderation on the system.

The less reason you see to vote, the more we need you.

Your district needs you to vote. The higher percentage of voters who turn out, the more the politicians will care about your concerns and those of your neighbors. A district with poor turnout has little to offer a politician, who controls the money spent on public services.

As close as so many recent elections hae been, and as rabidly partisan as many compaigns have gotten, each vote has become more obviously critical in the final analysis.

Please exercise your right -- fulfill your responsibility as a citizen -- and vote.

Me and my Mom stopped by the Polling Station on our way back from the County Clerk's office where she paid her PROPERTY TAXES!!!!!!!!!! Daggum if that don't stink big time, chargin the widow of a United States Air Force Veteran, property taxes, sheesh!
I voted for everyone the NRA told me to, welllll, least the ones I could remember. :D I always vote to replace the sitting Judges. Don't like em having power for too long.

I know my heros and wanted the same, to try my hand at the Patriot Game...

Vote..

Or not.....

After being the 8th in line at 7:45am and waiting for about a 1/2 hour, we were all told that the new machines were not functioning, and that the 'techs' would have a look at them. We were then advised to go to the next voting location. My wife and I had to go to work but decided on going on our lunch break at 1100a. 1100a - lunchtime and finally after hours of waiting in line, we were mere feet from the voting machines (5 people ahead of us) and then..."sorry folks, we're having some issues with the new machines, but we've got some 'techs' working on the problem". Well, we waited it out until 230p - finally able to cast our votes. I wonder though, how many after the first "hiccup" just said "to hell with it" and didn't vote? Maybe they should really test these machines so that this doesn't happen too often. Just my .02

Provisional vote here.
I forgot about reregistering in my new district until it was too late. :o
Oh, and I couldn't figure out how to fold the dang thing and stuff it into the envelope either.
The guy must have thought I was retarded!
But at least I voted!
I'm going absentee next time.

sounds like they used the same contractors as the ones who put in that newfangled baggage system at DIA.......

:D

Simpler is better. I would prefer a paper ballot with an OCR to scan and total votes afterward. We don't NEED to know the results immediately after the polls close. We need to know the system is reliable.

With scanning and totals done later, any glitch would not distort the vote itself. With paper ballots, no one would have to feel their vote disappeared inside somebody's video game.

wrap it up

wake me when it's over
and the winner's been announced
i need to know the way to go
which party's getting bounced
or if i really need to care
or think it makes a difference
when so much always stays the same
no matter who makes better sense
