Today is the day people GET OUT AND VOTE

Still using paper ballots where I live -- on the southern edge of Northern Virginia.

Had to go after work. Long lines, but well worth the wait.

No confusion with the paper ballot, and I got to put it right into the automated ballot box for safekeeping right after I voted.

What's the point of living in a democratic society if you DON'T vote? After 30 years in the USAF, I don't consider voting an option -- it's a responsibility. And don't give me any crap about "one person's vote doesn't count" or "I hate both the candidates." Do the research, make your decision...and vote!!

Don't Ever Think Your Vote Doesn't Count, Because in...

1645 ONE vote gave Oliver Cromwell control of England.

1649 ONE vote caused Charles I of England to be executed.

1776 ONE vote gave America the English language instead of German.

1800 Thomas Jefferson was elected president by only ONE vote in the electoral collage over Aaron Burr.

1839 ONE vote elected Marcus Morton Governor of Massachusetts.

1845 ONE vote brought Texas into the Union.

1868 ONE vote saved President Andrew Johnson from impeachment.

1876 ONE vote gave Rutherford Hayes the Presidency of the United States and ... ONE vote changed France from a monarchy to a republic.

1923 ONE vote gave Adolph Hitler leadership of the Nazi party.

1939 ONE vote passed the selective service act.

1948 ONE vote per precinct in California gave Harry Truman the presidency.

1960 ONE vote per precinct elected John F. Kennedy President of the U.S.

1978 In Fullerton, California a Democratic candidate for the State of California's legislature lost by TEN votes in a primary election where 32,000 votes were cast.

We voted last night. Our town is VERY small and they had one machine and the rest was paper. One of us took the machine - the other did paper. I heard about an hour after I left, the machine went haywire - but I doubt that changes the votes since they are printed from the machine onto a roll.

In the olden days when I first started voting they had the paper ballots, but in the primary they would have 3 boxes, one dem, one rep and one "other"... I guess it saved them counting time, but it sure messed with the notion of a confidential vote!!

We have 3 old ladies running our poles - they were old when I was in high school. The lady who signed me in is in her 90s... no chance they made any mistakes.... :)
