working on an integral push dagger and the mini mill is working its little heart out but is no way ever to be using the 3/4 inch end mill that im using :foot::D

i still need to make many passes one the dagger just for the scale inletting

I'm sorry Butch, truly I am.

I wish you were closer, I'd give a fellow like you unlimited access to a Bridgeport any time.

BTW, 3/4" is pretty big on a full size mill, I can't imagine cutting stainless on a mini with 3/4". Spindle speed and feed have to stay "in the window", so the only adjustment you can make is depth of cut. Off hand I'd guess 700 RPM and 10 IPM with 4 flutes and perhaps only .010" DOC? It will take a while.

You're cutting stainless, right? Keep it moving, don't dwell, you know.

and then i stepped up to the 1.25inch ball mill:foot:

nate thanks but i dont know near the info to use a full size mill

had to retram the head 2 times as it went out of wack on me

i vibrated my way to a cut slow but sure and i ll clean up some on the belts

Holy crap, You side milled that puppy. Not a good thing for the mini mill. Well it looks like it turned out. You may want to think about taking it in steps rather than in a single pass. I mean down not in. Then finish up with a really small finish pass. You can also set up a long spindle sander and clean it up a bit. Keep us posted.

oo i cut a ton of passes with the 3/4 side cutting maybe 3/32 depth x less then a 1/16 into the steel side then cleaned it all up with the 2 flute 1.25 inch ballmill
im thinking about going to back and doing a little more work on it but im not sure yet have to see how things clean up at the grinder

You might want to thin that blade out a bit...
Light passes with the end of the endmill... No 1/16 deep cuts...
Keep posting progress pics.

What make/model mill are you using? I'm shopping for a mill, and I'd like to avoid yours.

hahah i got a HF mini mill (not micro) i think the X2 is abuot all the same running gear

like nate said less you get a real mill this kind of thing is a bad idea but hay i use what i gots

be ready to spend a few grand settign up a good mill i have i bet 1G in this one easy with tooling and what not and it is a cheap one

it shines at drilling nice holes and light milling but this is way more then it was ever meant to be used for

after all that crap milling got out of the way i got to start grinding the bevels hollow cause the look cooler

That is absolutely vicious looking. It certainly would leave a BIG hole in whatever you stab with it. Can't wait to see it all finished out. Great call on the hollow grinds. Really gives it flare.

That's pretty cool! I love that point-on shot.

What size wheel is that ground on, Butch?

the handiest dandiest 2 inch wheel that i got on the top part of my KMG i replaced the Al top wheel with a rubber wheel from rob

Hey Butch....I'm not that far away. You are welcome to use my mill anytime.
Wicked looking stabber...

Larry

takes lots of time but the look is worth it

by the way man does the blade want to get pulled down by the belt when you get near the tip
i still have 2 spots i want to fix the one bevel is abut a hair off and make sure the point is as close as i can get it to being + and not X shaped

When I read CPM10v I let out a little yelp!
Good grief, you've got more patience than... Y'know, that kind of patience just sets up and entirely new category.
Ants gathering food for winter? Not even close.

From now on, I'll say "almost as much patience as Butch milling his 10v integral on a HF mini-mill."
