Today's arrival

That camp/karda is a sweet setup. Glad to see you score a camp knife you like :)

I'm still warming up to the runt

Should someone start a bluing thread or just call this the blue thread? It's seams to be buzzzing.

Ahhh! After my last post i got on a plane to Vegas. Arrived to all these great comments! Thanks everyone. Super pumped about it but not trying to rub it in Velosa!:)

Please help settle my nerves though. This afternoon was a ridiculous rush to get to the airport. I was going to bring the runt and put it in a plastic bag to separate it from some wet stuff and keep it dry as it was raining at home. Almost missing the plane, we flew out of the car and i left it inside the plastic bag in the car. Am i going to return on tuesday morning to a totally rusted out runt? What a crappy way to end being so pumped. I'm hoping it will be fine, it wasn't wet at all or anything, but wondering your thoughts.

Thanks,

Idiot.

Yikes.

Depends:

~Where'd you fly out of? Where'd you park? is your car directly in the sun?
~Where's the knife in your car? trunk? glove box?
~How's the knife stored in the bag? is it rolled up nice and tight? just lose in the bag? Is the bag sealed?

I think the last one is your biggest concern. A sealed bag is going to create condensation over time. You could have nothing in it and just the moisture in the air sealed in the bag would do it. If the bag is rolled up tight around the knife (less air) then there's much less of a concern.

If you live in a humid climate, parked in the sun, your knife is on the seat, and it's just loose in a big, air-filled bag....well...at least you got a nice picture of it.

This brings up another point to discuss. I know a guy who stores his safe queen knives with Sylica gel packets right in the bag. I've never gone that far but, in this instance, one would help.

Hey solid, thanks for the reply. I am hoping it will be fine. I flew out of baltimore, weather over the next few days looks not too hot and humid. Parked in a car garage, so the car will be out of the elements and any direct sun. The knife was rolled up pretty tight and under a blanket in the back, not sure it was ziplocked totally or not. Still had the cardboard sheath on it.

Ugh.

Might have a solution. Dad was in town today and is driving home past the airport. He might swing by the airport to rescue the blue and take her out of the bag! Give me your vote on whether to have him take it home and mail it back or if out of the bag with the cardboard sheath still on under the seat on the floor should be fine. Sorry to ruin a good thread!

I don't know that I'd take the chance. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't be ok. From what solid has said, it sounds like you're in the best of a potentially bad situation.

Michael

I think you are good man. The fact that you are in a garage saved it, I'd bet. without direct sunlight on the vehicle the ambient temperature in the car shouldn't get high enough to cause condensation.

thanks Michael and thanks Solid. I do think it is ok as well. 70's and no sun, i think you are right, it will likely be fine.

Hoping to see some more blues here soon!
