  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Today's day hike and a giveaway

Looks like you had a lot of fun.

Boonies are supposed to fit loose when new -- because they shrink a bit after wetting/washing.

That MRE brings back plenty of memories. Those heaters can make quite a boom..;) or so I've heard.

Cool pics - I got rid of my Izula and now want it back. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I have a boonie also but agree they need a ventilation band around the top.
Looks like a nice day out in the woods!

Good thread mate, nice pics. Had the joy of living on MRE's for a couple of weeks this summer. Not bad, fairly tasty actually. Shame so much packaging is all.

Good fire kit to. Knives, fires and MRE's oh my!

Great pics, I love woodsy pictures, I went for a walk too in our nearby urban woods, actually I just took a walk over the Belvidere bridge which connects North East PA to Jersey across the Delaware River, I ran into the remnants of some local wildlife:

and a couple of the river that separates Jersey and PA.

Nice pics Snow (fortunately I just got high speed a couple days ago!)

Why is there black tape around the top of the lighter?

I would guess that is a ranger band, not tape. Either way, that is to keep the valve closed, so you don't end up with an empty lighter when you need it. I started using a zip tie after reading the suggestion here. Some guys use a rubber o-ring.

By the way snow...totally intimidating. Nice pictures, I think you should have started a raging fire next to the fire plug, it would have been a great contrast.
