Todays Fatwood Hunt !

I havent hunted fatwood yet, so could you tell me what to look for? and by the way, beautiful brindle dog

Look for rotten stumps in pine forests and the bases of branches on downed pine trees. The stumps are the best because the core is preserved with the pitch. How do you tell if that rotten stump was a pine tree you ask? I test it by kicking it. You will know right away if it is solid fat wood in the center. It will feel way more solid than it looks.

The fatwood will often stand proud from the rotten punk wood stump in tall fingers. Slice a thin sliver off with ya knife and smell it, if it's Fatwood you will know straight away !

Maisy came from England with us Bill, she is an English Bull terrier/ Staffordshire Bull terrier cross. Gotta love a brindle eh !

Great dogs. This is my little girl. she is a pure bred Staf bull terrior. Little large for the breed at 45lbs, but a major chunk.
