Since it hit 60 degrees here today we decided to take a 5 mile walk in one of our local forest preserves. Hickory Creek Preserve is less than 3 miles from my house.

Here is the start of the trails

Hickory Creek. When I was in high school we used to take a rubber raft down it in spring when the water was high.

Some of the woods the trail winds through.

Pond in the woods still has ice on it. When I was a kid we used to walk here to fish, and catch turtles. It was not forest preserve back then. We used to walk along the railroad tracks and cut through a pasture to get to it.

Man I REALLY like that urban tank. Great pics John. I love the hickory creek shot, all that is missing is a tire swing over the water. You didn't happen to pick up any hickory wood while you where out wandering did ya? ;)

Great pics John, was Hollow dweller in that tree ?

We need more pics of Maggie please !!!!!

Thanks for sharing those great pics and memories John  You must have had a damn good time floating down Hickory Creek with your friends back in the day :) Love the shot of the iced over pond too!

Now that's a great day ... cute pup and thanks for including some knife porn

Oh man your pup has such a serious look on her face.. I dont think she likes to be woken up from sleep on a comfy bed lol.. its great when you live so close to a great hiking place...

Looks like you had a lot of fun. Did you ever fish in the creek? Out here where I live about 10 years ago there used to be all kinds of odd fish that you could catch in one of the creeks. (Like a Salmon I caught..)

Great pics. Maggie looks like she will be a handful.
That Tank looks like a great EDC.

Great pics and cute pup! I've walked thru that area before.

Fishing for Bullhead and bluegill is just as much fun as fishing for the big'uns if you use a light rod and reel and 2# test. I go out at a place called Toussaint wildlife area. Lots of Bullhead there. Unfortunately, they have been on a mssive decline as of late for some reason :(

Oh, and really cute dog :)
