Figured I would get in some outdoors time for the first snow of the year. Most of my pictures came out pretty bad due to the snow though.

I found it strange that a tree was growing in the middle of a stream, maybe a sign of flooding?

A pretty big waterfall that I was not expecting.

Lying down in a nice cave I found. It was about twice the length of my body and a great size for a shelter. I just needed to take out some small rocks and replace it with some evergreen bedding and I could have moved right in. There were even some good rocks to reflect the heat of a fire.

Great pics. We have had a record year for precipitation. Rivers are flowing fast and heavy. Alot of places you haven't seen in awhile may be bogs or under a lil water. Be careful where you step as the snow may cover alot of those areas!

Great pics, Andy.

Tony, excellent advice. This is a situation where a good stout walking stick, with a tip that can pierce things (such as aluminum pipe clamped closed so that it forms a sort of large flat-head screwdriver), is essential. You can test the snow ahead of you before putting your weight on it.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. Wonder what that waterful would like like in the summer with greenery.

The two times waterfalls look best :Winter, and when there is the greenery for a nice puzzle-picture.

Good advice Brian.

I always hike with a staff in snow and in ice conditions; it lets me probe for deep snow pockets between the rocks as well as testing for solid ground.

It doesn’t hurt to have a third point of balance in slippery conditions either.
