We woke to 3" of fresh white stuff. My wife had to work and Daisy and my daughter, Kate, were going stir crazy. We decided against a long drive on messy roads so we went down to the local river for a hike.

Our objective: The Hyatt Regency Dearborn in the distance.

We covered over three miles but fell short of the Hyatt by about 1/2 mile. Daisy cut one of her pads and I needed to get her home to check it out. She's fine. just a little cut.

We plan on trying again real soon.

I drive past that every single day of the work week. How do you get past the fence that runs down both sides? Is there a hole in it somewhere or is there an entrance?

I'd also be interested to know how to get into there. I've driven by a couple of times, and I'm always looking for a nice spot to go for a little walk without having to head all the way out of town.

cm, B Wilson,

You can gain access at a couple different places. The easiest place is at the Melvindale ice arena. On S. Dearborn street near the intersection of Allen Rd. and Greenfield Rd. There's even a place to launch a boat so you can run the Rouge down to the Detroit river. From the Southfield take Oakwood to Allen and make a left.

If you'd like to get together for a hike or bike ride this spring, just drop me a PM or e-mail. Its definately urban but with little to no traffic.
