Tom Brown Tracker School

I think that is hyperbolic expensive but if you're smart enough you do what Dave Canterbury’s did, grab the WSK go to you Tobe & in few months time you will have your own School & few own design knive too out there.:D

I think if you do a search on Bladeforums, you will find more than you want to read. Good, bad, terrible, warts, everything... That would probably be a better way to go about it. :)

I wasted a week of my life in that place. Save your money and time and look for a better place to learn, a place with out all that mumbo jumbo. And I’m convinced that Stalking Wolf is made a made up person.

I love opinions of people who have actually been. There are so many people who have opinions on gear they haven't owned or classes they haven't attended.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I went and had a good time. Would love to go back someday.

Different people get different things from the same class.
When I went to the class they said 75% of all students come back for more.

As I recall from previous threads of the same subject the overwhelming opinion of those who went was that it was OK.

There's an interesting thread about this right now in whine and cheese. You might want to have a look.

I have attended three courses and had a blast. I have heard many talk down the Tracker school, but the Overwhelming majority had never attended. I would reccomend and plan on going back.

I've read his books and love them but now he's started sending out begging letters wanting a $200.000 loan my opinion of him has changed !:thumbdn:

Im a christian and that mumbojumbo has brought he closer to God so I would say its lost knowledge!

You might have started your post with the fact that you have already attended (it appears you have by this statement). I read your original post as if you had not attended yet and you were looking for opinions. I have no opinion of the man's school, but him asking for money in the fashion he did has killed any credibility for him IMO. Hopefully he can find his credibility, for I think he lost it in the woods.

+1

I was never one of the Tom Brown haters, I really had no opinion of him. I am not a fan of all the spiritual Grandfather stuff, but I didn't let it ruin my opinion of him. But when he goes and emails all who attended any of his courses looking for money... Well lets just say that doesn't sit well with me.

Nope I have never been to any I just read his books. Well if you are one of the core students of his you would not want to see the primitive camp go away as to them its a magical awesome place that they like to escape to. what just his writings have helped me understand I could never put a price on that. I was lost for many years searching for more and I found what has always been calling me in his writings. He maybe full of bs on Stalking wolf and all of that but thats his choice to share that tale. It's also on his shoulders but one mans sin can lead to anothers redemption. So I thank him!

This thread has been fairly civil thus far but TBJ threads tend to go South within the first few pages. There have been many threads on this subject. Lets try to keep the W&SS TBJ version flowing with constructive responses from folks who have had personal experience with the classes or read the books. The blatent bashing thread is in Wine and Cheese.

I have gone to five of the Tracker schools courses and have mixed feelings about most of them. The positive is the lessons are pretty well thought out and much can be learned. The negative is many of the instructors tend to get a bit holier than thou.

The Standard course was, if not still is, mostly taken from his first Wilderness Survival book. If you choose to take the Standard, read and practice as much of that book as you can. You won't feel the need to take as many notes, and you might grasp the rapid fire lessons better. The lessons are set up so you have a leacture then a practical session all day long, one after the other. It sounds like a lot, but it actually works well. There are a few seemingly stupid crafty things interspersed, but they are there more to give everyones brain a break now and then.

I've been to a standard years ago and it's a great experience. The first couple days I was turned off by the whole groupie guru worship that some of the people brought. I mean they were all but kissing his feet as he walked lol. But if you take it as a learning experience and ignore all the mumbo jumbo you'll find you learn quite a bit. I went mostly for the tracking as they other skills I had already taught myself, and the tracking was worth it. Some of his tracking seems to have a spiritual and mystical feel to it (I think to justify claims such as tracking a mouse across a sidewalk), but the real stuff on primary pressure releases does make sense and was really interesting.
