Tom Ferry - 007 Folder

I feel as if many of the posts on this thread have been in poor taste.

{Sigh}

Hi. Would you please indicate those "many . . . posts on this thread [which] have been in poor taste?" I would really like to understand where you are coming from. TIA!

I strongly disagree the comment that his engraving is just "OK" i suggest you look up more of his work and see how over the top it is.

I only commented on the specific engraving on this knife. His other engraving might indeed be "over the top." However, I never commented on it.

I gave my opinions on this knife, and this knife alone.

We all have different experiences, viewpoints, and tastes. I don't know how many examples of different engraving you have examined, or how much time you have spent at places like "Engraver's Café," or how many engraved knives you have purchased or commissioned. I do not claim to be a world authority on engraving. But I do not believe that my opinion is totally uninformed, either. My opinion is influenced by the amount of time I have spent examining engraved guns at gun shows, engraved knives at knife shows, engraved watches, knives, guns, etc. in person, and in photographs in books and on the Internet . . . all kinds of engraving from many different engravers throughout the world. Again, I do not claim to be an authority. So take my opinion FWIW, which to you may be zero - especially if you have substantially more knowledge and experience with engraved knives, guns, etc. than I have. For all I know, you are an authority on engraving. I don't know. Maybe you could educate me - that would be great. But I have spent some amount of time examining a lot of different engraving, and a not insignificant amount of money both purchasing engraved knives, and commissioning engraving on knives - and from some fairly well known and I believe respected engravers. But of course in the end, again, it is nothing but just MY opinion. And as always, YMMV. I do not believe that I expressed it in a nasty, demeaning, or mean way, so I do not know why anyone would get worked up over my worthless opinion.

Toms physics are some of the best in the world. I have owned a lot of knives by tom and i have a very difficult time carrying a knife from any other maker. Tom is at the forefront of the tactical knife world and one of the very few that is striving to define the word tactical that we all throw around so much. In my opinion Tom Ferry is making knives that are next level in the tactical world, and in my opinion he is in the top 1% when it comes to fit/finish, physics, design, and innovation. I feel he is one of the best makers in the world. Just my 2 cents.

I have at least twice specifically indicated my respect and admiration for Tom Ferry as a knifemaker. If you want to start a thread about Tom Ferry in general, I would be happy to make those same posts there.

But this thread is supposedly about this very specific knife. I stand by my comments. And again, YMMV.

I'm considerably more interested in makers like Ferry, Fisk or Bradshaw who make up the whole enchilada than makers who purchase the damascus for their knives and farm out the engraving.
STeven Garsson
Add my name to the list who feel the same as STeven on the above.

I see Kevin Jones and a few others stating here more than once that when folks post up knives here, they should be open for a full discussion.
I won't try to speak for others here, however to clarify what I have said in the past is that when makers or collectors post their knives they should be willing to accept any negative comments along with positive comments as long as presented in a courteous and productive manner. However the difference here is, Chuck neither made or owns this knife or least he didn't mention owning it in his opening post.
Having said the above, I don't feel your posts were out of line.

I know who knWWman1 is. He is an advanced collector with many great pieces in his collection. I think he has one of the best collections in the country. He attends many shows including AKI.
Chuck

While I certainly understand reasons why many don't use their real names, I feel forums would be better off if everyone did.
