Tom is indeed a master at damascus. He is an experienced instructor as well as a top rated smith. Ive been to his house and went through classes he has taught at 3 hammer-ins. I suggest you guys sign up ASAP.

Bruce, I see you're not far from my neck of the woods. Any classes/instructors like the above in our area?

Not exactly a workshop or hammer-in, but I just got a post card promoting this event at work the other day. Seattle Metals Guild Lecture Series February 21st 2008. Master knifesmith Tom Ferry presents the golden age of damascus: a discussion of current techniques, patterns, materials and the use of damascus.

Hi Ralph
The Big Sky Hammer-in near Missoula Montana in late June. Its a good one too. I wish there were something closer. You should stop by here sometime.

Thanks very much guys.

Bruce...As soon as the mountain isn't such a mess to get over and the kids sports slow down a bit I'd love to take you up on it. Thanks! :)

Tom is a good friend of mine. I had never made anything other than cable damascus the first time I went to his shop. We have pushed each other a lot over the last 7 years.

Tom is one of the most brilliant pattern welded steel minds out there. He can visualize this stuff in his sleep... and does! :)

If you can spend time learning from him, it will be time well spent!

If only I had the funding to attend. I'll start saving up now

I will be attending the Bill Moran May hammer-in.

Any idea who will be hosting/teaching this?

Hi Dave, Texarkana College will be hosting the hammer-in.
I asked the question incorrectly. This will be my first knife function.
Do they have specific instructors who take the lead on activities, or something to that effect?

Just wondering who I might get to hammer with.
