Tom Ferry Prestige Grade #001 Widow Maker

Stunning... What a blade... There is nothing here that isn't spectacular but boy I just cannot stop looking at that transition from the clean edge to the hairy fingers or spider legs.

As John said, that there's more to come is a treat to anticipate.

Shazzam!!!!! That piece of ivory is one of those that leaves you guessing at first as to what the handle material might be. Wild looking piece!!!

Right, Joe. I have to confess I thought it was stone, in fact I was sure of it until Jon set me straight. It does share qualities with marble.

Thanks for the compliments guys. This was by far my favorite project yet, Thanks Jon for letting me run with it.
Buddy, thanks for explaining the idea behind the theme, you hit it spot on.

I planned every part of this knife to compliment the others and to carry the theme "Widow Maker". The damascus consisted of 3 starting billets, total weight before forging was around 40 lbs of steel. Each billet was to be based on a spiderweb. The ricasso is the simplest of the three billets showing the basic web. The main section of the blade is an extreme variation to blend into the edge pattern which is a combination of interweaving webs and hisps of spiderleg like elements jutting out into a solid high carbon steel edge (it is not masked off and etched). There was 14 forge welds involved in creating the damascus. Because of the dramatic damascus and ivory I actually redesigned the engraving so that it did not complete directly with the blade or handle, hence the reason for engraving the front and rear of the guard and 24K spider inlays to just hint at more. The sheath however resulted in a beautiful canvas for the theme.

Ivory is always a gamble as we buy it in the rough, This piece turned out to be more than what I could have expected, The finish and luster it demonstrates is almost beyond belief, now if I could just find another 100 or so pieces just like it.., lol. There is also just under 1/3 ounce of 24K gold in the whole package.

This knife is the introduction of my Prestige Grade knives, which are to be the best I have to offer, knives that are as much art as they are knives. Currently the plan is to only offer 2 or 3 of these caliber knives per year.

Enjoy and great pics Buddy,

Tom

The box creates a fantastic presentation. Another wildly outstanding addition, Jon. Great pics Buddy and a real piece if art Tom!

Thanks for the explanation of the damascus Tom - it sounds even more complex and time-conuming in the making than it looks. And it looks pretty darned complex.
