Tom Krein Regrind Passaround -Review - Praise - The Stuff

Had a fun time with the Calys today. My uncle owns a little grocery/convenience store (think Quickstop from Clerks) that he and my aunt run. I help them out when they like to take time off if I can and I was there today. I used both knives opening stuff to put on the shelves and take down some boxes. The regular Caly cut really well but the Krein Caly glided through everything EASILY.

The real test though was with a Sonic cup that I had. Taking the regular Caly, I chopped it lightly in the the rim of the cup to see how far it went. I then pushed the Caly into the rim to see how hard it was. The regular Caly did well in both but the Krein did much better in both tests. I used noticeably less pressure with the Krein Caly and it push cut the rim easily and deeply. And on the chop, the same amount of force had the Krein Caly sinking in about double the amount of the regular Caly.

Using the Krein Caly is effortless. It just moves through material like it's not there. I definitely need one or more of these to call my own.

And Sodak, I'll get these mailed back to you on Monday. I'll mail them to the address and name on the box. Once again, thank you for letting me use these.:D

No problem, take your time. Your aol email doesn't seem to work, you said that you have a gmail account, please shoot me an email and we can chat offline. Thanks!

would a regrind on a field knife like a cold steel srk be useful, even tho the knife is used for fairly heavy stuff from time to time, limbs etc?

I think so, but you can talk to Tom Krein about it. He can greatly improve the performance but leave the edge thicker than he does on these small folders, but a good bit thinner than stock. He does fixed blade knives for a living, and I have seen some of his regrinds on beasts like the Hindered XM-18, so I'm sure Tom can regrind it for better performance while retaining it's ability to withstand tough work.

Mike Stewart and his crew at Bark River do a great job reprofiling knives like your hard working Cold Steel.

The polished convex edge they are famous for will make it a real cutter while still taking abuse.
