Tom Krein reground ZDP: how's your holding up?

I just sent Tom my Sebenza. How's that for trust? I can't wait to see what he can do with it!

Today I got back my 2 micarta sebenzas (both large, one serrated and one plain edge), a Caly Jr zdp-189 and a Todd Davison slippie that I sent to Tom with instructions to put a good keen edge on them. Tom did a great job! Now I know what "haip popping" sharp is. He has turned my knives into awesome cutting machines. Turn around time was great, about a week from the time I sent them until the time I got them back. Price was very reasonable too. Well worth the investment.:D:thumbup:;)

To any of you out there either too lazy or unskilled (like me) to get a killer edge, a trip to Tom will solve your problems. The difference is remarkable.

Had this one for a while now, cutting heavy cardboard/wires/ropes and the like, not a problem, easily touched up to breath taking sharpness, it was sharp before, but a tad
thick, now at .010" at the edge bevel, it slices oh so nice ;)

Wow, Gary. That looks amazing. That is exactly what I want done to my ti/zdp cyclone. If you don't mind my asking, what did Tom charge for that work?

Thanks, I'll email you instead of a public price as things change over the
weeks and years.

I had the same thing done to my cyclone and 4 other knives and they are 99% better cutters!! I think Tom charges a standard rate also.

Great! Thanks a bunch, Gary. I can't believe how nice that grind looks. It even got rid of most of the DLC coating which I can't stand. It's a win/win situation. :D

Just got the Sebenza back, amazing job. The grind looks a lot like the original grind, but much thinner (0.009 in at the shoulder). This thing really cuts, the picture doesn't do it justice. It's not ZDP, but S30V, but still.... The discoloration is from heat treating, it buffs off, but I've been too lazy, and it's a user anyway. I need to get better lighting for my pictures.

Let's see, 60 - 61 HRC S30V, dark side thin grind, this baby should cut! :D
