Had a custom pipe hawk made by a reputable maker. The final piece is beautiful. My question is this. Is the eye oversized? It measures 1.570 inches in length. The head is gasketed on the haft with a piece of leather between the eye and the haft which seems to be common practice on pipes. My concern is that the eye may have been drifted too large? Any thoughts are welcome.

Cold Steel makes their eyes 1.5 inches so yours is right. Most hawk eyes should be 1" x 1.5" creating a nice oval or egg shape. That said, hawk eyes are supposed to be much larger than axe or hatchet eyes due to how the handle is attached (straight handle with tapered top vs wedge and pin).
