Tomahawk for Self Defense...

chrome thanks man. can you not get the LaGuana sharpened prior to it getting shipped to you? like when ya order, cant you have ATC sharpen it for you?

roger that.... but your claim of them being sharp is the total opposite of what the other guy said but whatever.. i have already talked to andy, i just need to ask him about having it sharpened
 
Personally I have never liked the look of the ATC hawks, but I can appreciate the history behind them as well as the functionality. Many of the hawks out there seem to be too heavy for self defence, espically the all steel variety. The K5 and others are like 3/8'' thick or bigger, and while this is great for chopping oil drums and doors, its just not going to cut it as a self defence weapon. If it was for defence I would opt for one of the smaller cold steel hawks, or a similar type.

Dusty, I am ordering one from Andy and the crew on Monday or Tuesday... Thanks. I am getting the VTAC as well... I just hope mine isnt pitted... Andy also told me that he can make it razor sharp, but I think it compromises the toughness of the edge or something.... Any thoughts there Dusty?
 
I was going to re-profile mine to be sharper and decided it was sharp enough as it was and left it alone. It will cut what I need it to cut and a knife is better for most other cutting needs anyways.
 
I have been looking into the vtac's and they are sort of growing on me.
Has anyone noticed the lakota lithograph hawk? Its edge is ground to an angle that looks pretty nice to me, maybe ill get one and mod it up a bit.
I'll try on a cheap cold steel version first of course.

I keep one in the living room. No doubt it would work for self defense. Hopefully, I'll never have to find out.
