Tomahawk/Hatchet/Axe, No Knife?

All good points, Cajun and others. Didn't have a scale in front of me, just a couple of bigger tools & nothing smaller (not having a smaller knife hadn't happened before and probably won't happen again, but you live long enough and something weird like this is bound to happen sometime). Picked up the items, hefted them a moment, made the decision, and hit the trail--daylight was burning. The tiny little axe came in lighter by feel. And I suppose I had in the back of my mind the knowledge that the axe was more versatile than my blades for splitting and pounding and so forth. Nice blade, Cajun. Send me one and maybe I won't have to go knifeless ever again! ;)

I don't really do the one tool option but I've always said that if I could only have one tool to take out into the woods that it would be a hatchet. A GB mini is a great tool to have on you and weighs less than any comparable chopper. One thing most people don't take into account with knives is how much the sheath weighs. Yeah, my Scrapyard 711 only weighs about 14 ounces but if you include the sheath it's north of 20.

Good story but I'm just not understanding the part about all your knives with Chopping potential being too heavy and instead you pack a Backpaxe that weighs in at 19.4oz ...

This Proper Chopper I made for a friend doesn't weigh that much and has overall length of 18"

Probably chops just as good or better that the Backpaxe, and is def more versatile...

Santa Maria!! Cajun, we're going to have chat REAL soon!!

I'm sure someone could make a killing off of it. I like bringing a folder/small fixed, a 4-5 inch and a axe/machete and use them for their intended tasks.

That said, my Winkler Camp Axe would fit the bill well. I'm sure something from Omnivore would be able to do that work too.
