• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

TomaHawk Work in Progress (WIP)

Thats just how I do it with square stock. My cast drift is toast. Its got to the point that I dont really have enough head left. thats my fault though. I wallered' it to death when I first got it. Now I start my socket with handled drifts and then use the cast drift to true everything up. Problem is now its so old and beaten it isnt the right size any more.Still makes a good form for wrap and weld hawks though. I think Im gonna order a drift from dancing frog forge. He makes them out of 1045.

Why not make your own ???

Why not make your own ???
Well, Ive always made all my own tools..I now have some shoulder/back issues and its hard enough to keep doing what Im doing. I dont have a power hammer (not a lot of them floating around here). Forging down big stock is rough on me now. Ive gotten to the point that its forge what I want to ( paying the price) and buy the tools or forge the tools and recooperate for days before I can start on what I want :jerkit: The last billet of damascus we did took weeks instead of days. I hate to sound like Im whining but thats the point its gotten too :thumbdn: I spend a lot of time teaching my wife the trade now.

Thanks so much for doing this Steve, you're a great teacher and an inspiration.

Best regards

Robin

Steve,
Thanks again....you make it look to easy. I'd be at it for a week and it still wouldn't turn out.

very cool anvil and a perfect example of how tool specialization make the process sooo much easier. thanks so much for letting all of us know your process. now we need a wip on finishing and haft making, not to put too much pressure on you but you have us all hooked now.
