Here is one I finish up this weekend for a good customer. Forged from a ball peen hammer. Brass hunter's moon in the blade. Pour in place pewter fittings. Curly maple for the handle and german silver wire inlay.

Very nice

Pewter = solder - right ??

when you say poured into place, you create a cavity inside the wooden haft to hold the casting in place and a mould around it ???

you don't have any burning-charring of the wood ???

Thats correct. Lead free plumbing solder on this one. Pewter is still available from some of the muzzleloading builder suppliers. I create a cavity and pour. I test it with a tooth pick before pouring if it burns-charrs the pick it is to hot.

That's a neat little trick - thanks

I would have assumed that solder flow temp would always be too hot for that...
