Camping season is coming folks, and these work for splitting wood as well as "mountain man darts". :D
Forge welded mild steel, superquenched. ...see http://www.cvbg.org/tips/superquench.PDF.
I've made over 10,000 using this quench.
Edges are @4", @5 1/2 back of eye to the edge
Handles are ash

Can you please explain "mild steel"? I'm sorry, I don't really know my steels. I'm used to knife steels, 1095, 01, etc. Please excuse my ignorance!

Neat!

What are the lengths on the handles and do they make decent throwers (balance)?

Thanks! :D

abiggs, Mild steel has only a little carbon. Carbon has to be added to iron to make steel. With higher amounts of carbon added, steel can be hardened enough to make knives and tools. This is a very simplified version.
The tomahawks have a little carbon but it's enough that if the steel is quenched quickly,
it gets hard enough to make a nice axe.
