Tommi puukko

It's significantly small compared to the other twos. Also Keränen puukkos are now crafted by his pupil Timo Mäkeläinen of whom I know nothing about, unfortunatly.

All the current knives are made by Mäkeläinen, who kept the MK stamp. A similar thing to YP-Taonta iron products and knives. YP-Taonta was founded by Yrjö Puronvarsi, hence the YP stamp, but since 2006 the smith has been his grandson Antti Mäkinen.

If you just want to try rhombic section you may consider taking a YP-Taonta first, since it will cost about half the price of a custom made Tommi, while the geometry is the same.

Speaking of the two knifemakers I linked, Mikkonen is a senior member of Puukkoseura, the Finnish knifemakers Guild, while Inkeroinen is a freshly certified master bladesmith, after being a knifemaker since 1997.

There are anyway many blacksmith and knifemakers crafting Tommis or Tommi inspired puukkos: Martti Malinen, Jari Liukko and Henri Tikkanen, just to name a few.

Gorgeous!! But super rich for my blood. If you're interested in a more affordable version, check out the Woodsknife, on the linked website below. Pretty sure these only come in high carbon steel, no stainless option, but also gorgeous and made in Finland in traditional puukko style with different length options and wood handle options as well. It's where I buy my Terava Jääkäripuukkos from. I'll also be buying one of these soon...

Two words about the steels involved in the forged puukkos I mentioned. YP puukkos are in 1075, Malinen has spcialized on 52100 and has used it for some 20 years, Liukko uses both K510 (silversteel) and 80CrV2, Tikkanen recycles old plow steel, so my best guess is 1085. I have a maasepan puukko coming from him in the near future so I will be able to compare it with the other steels.

Currently, the custom made Tommi in the 200 € range is the Mikkonen one.

But before buying I would get a price quote from the other smiths as well. They all speaks good english and are very easy going.
