Tommy Gann knives?

I've been taking a liking to Tommys style and his knives at the Blade Show were gorgeous. I was wondering if you guys could post pictures of his various knives that strike your attention. Post them whether you own them or not. Does he have his MS yet? I see alot of Hancock influence in the guard/spacer area. If you were buying his knife would you prefer that "border cut and grooved" look or just any original style of his?

Help me out with some photos. This guy is on my radar.

Thanks

I don't have a picture, but in perusing DDD's latest book I noticed a Dogbone bowie by Tommy that is exquisite.

I've noticed his knives for a few years now and have made it a point to stop by his table at Blade.

He's a great guy and TALENTED! I picked up a slipjoint folder this year, but don't have a picture. I'll try to get one but my photography is mediocre at best.

Jon, it's natural that you would be drawn to Tommy's knives as most do have a strong Tim Hancock influence from tip to butt. He studied under Tim.
He's currently a ABS "JS" smith and in my opinion is doing "MS" quality work.
Also, in Tim's tradition Tommy can make a very nice sheath, however as of late Bob Bibbitt is suppling the fine sheaths you may have seen with his knives. Bob just lives down the street from him.
As far as which knives to buy, I would buy which ever you like the best. His knives are priced VERY reasonably in my opinion. I feel the only reason Tommy isn't much more well known is that he's not a strong promoter of himself.

Hope this helps you out.
I have a lot of photos of his knives, will try to get some posted latter.

Yeah, from what i've seen his quality is great. I actually love the teardrop guard with the grooved spacer. I think its a classic look that works great and its really what drew me in to his knives when I first saw them.

Thanks for the info and please post pics when you guys find them.

Here you go Jon. I think you are more interested in his fixed blades, but I was happy to get this. Great fit and finish and "walk and talk"

Very talented maker, exceptionally clean work and a very nice guy to boot.

Kevin had posted a number of his pieces in the Blade preview thread. Here's one more for you:

I used to own one of his fixed blades. It was fantastic, and quite beautiful.

I had a lot of fun talking to Tommy at the Bladeshow this year, and he's one of the nicest guys in the room. His knives were great, and I almost jumped on two of them, a cowboy Bowie and an ivory/Damascus slippie, but in the end ordered a mammoth slippie instead. I'm super excited to see what he comes up with.

I don't have photos, but I intend to own some of his work, hopefully very soon.

Hi Jon,
I'm a big fan of Tommy's work, and it is very clean, and as Kevin mentioned, his prices are very reasonable. Besides, I don't think you'll find a sharper knife. I need to get my light box set up and get some good pics. These are pics of my knife from Tommy. Kevin got to handle it at the Little Rock show and I'm sure he can give you his opinion.

Bob, thats a great looking knife. Roger, I like that design. I think I saw a numbered pair of those. Is that one of them or did he make alot of knives in that style?

Peter, thats a nice slip. Your right, I am looking at fixed right now.

The numbered pair was a matched set for Peter Gill in the same basic style and materials.

Bob - that cowboy bowie is really sweet.

Peter, I got to handle your slip joint at Blade --- it's gorgeous. I really like his slim single blade design. Congrats on a fine piece.

Thanks Eli.

I was interested in an ivory handled one that was shown on the CKCA forum line-up, but by the time I got to Tommy's table it was gone.

After handling the bone handled one, I couldn't pass it up:D

I just noticed that for some reason I did not include the sheath so I guess I should see if I have a photo available with the sheath or do one including it.

I did do one so here it is

You did pick up a couple nice ones Murray.
Please be sure to include the sheaths. Especially the one with the damascus insert.

Murray, that bowie with the damascus insert is amazing. Remember me drooling over it at the CKCA table? Ladder pattern is one of my favorites so whats great about that knife is that even though the blade has a different pattern you get best of all worlds with the ladder pattern on the sheath.

Hey, Guys, here is one that you might have seen on Tommy's table but I did not pick it up till late Sunday and at that time then TG had only one knife remaining so not sure it it was a sell out for him.

Anyway here is an extremely well done slip joint folder with Carbon Fibre scales. This is so light weight one would hardly know you are holding anything and is it fun to just sit around and play with. You betcha!!

OAL is 7" with a 3 1/8 ATS 34 blade. It is a slippy that walks and talks and is not hard on the fingers or nails to open and close. Just a great little knife.

I have done images of the other knives but have to make sure they are all ok to use and then edit them and will post to this thread in the next day or so depending upon how ambitious I feel. Just thought I'd offer this one for perusal.
