Howdy, I am looking for tongs that can handle 3/4 and 1 inch round and hex stock.
Lots of different types out there and need some advice what would work best.
Thanks
Doug

Gripping stock that big, I find wolfjaws best all'round, but find myself using bolt tongs alot when their bowlegged jaws wont get in the way.

polar bear forge has blanks so you can forge your own and they don't break the bank

I have a large pair of bolt tongs for work like that. I use those or chain tongs for most of my work.
That said, why not make your own?
It's a great project and not nearly as hard as a lot of people seem to think. I've made a number of pairs at the museum for smithing demos

great answers and I am going to follow everyone's advice. I was going to pick up some bolt tongs for another project i am working on and I always wanted to make my own. So that being said. thanks everyone.

I made a set of tongs as my first forging project! while they are relatively simple in form, they are kinda hard to get right.
Watch Brian Brazeal's videos on making forge blanks a few times befor you give it a go and you shouldn't have too much trouble! Have fun!!
