Tonight in Central Park with Richard we were walking around Harlem Meer, an eleven acre pond in the northeast corner of the park, and he just seemed kind of hot and lazy, so I motioned for him to take a little dip. He's swims in there all the time but usually goes in where there's a graded entrance and here there was a little concrete wall around the edge. I just assumed that the water was pretty shallow and he'd hop in, take a dip and hop back out. OOOOPS. He jumped in and went all the way under. I was laughing when I realized there would be no way for him to climb out, the concrete wall was vertical and 8 inches higher than the water level. So I kneeled down and got my arm behind his front paws to pull him out when I lose my footing and go tumbling in.
It was only about 4 feet deep so thankfully we didn't have to swim around to get out but the chuckles from a couple on a nearby park bench made it all the more embarrassing.
