Tony Blair knew that 650K Iraqi civilian deaths since 2003 was accurate.

Boy I wish the UN had reigned in Saddam, rather than ignoring/profiting from the problem. If that organization was worth an ounce of salt there never would have been a 2nd war. The SC is an utter failure, and this is a prime example.

yes the Ottoman Empire was great. How many realize that Musilim religion is a off shoot of the Hebrew religion?

And I know that people scoff about it being a "religion of peace", but apparently Persia's pre-Islam religions had a far bloodier mythology. So, relatively speaking, I guess it's more peaceful than what came before. Mind you, I'd take bloody mythology over bloody methodology anyday.
But then I don't think Islam calls for any more violence than the Judeo-Christian faiths (that Old Testament sure contains a lot of righteous smiting!). But the political movements in several predominantly Muslim countries have a bone to pick with Western power.

I recall a radio program where a fellow involved in tallying civilian deaths said that the methods used were the same as those used by orginizations like UNICEF, etc... ones that would otherwise be trusted by the US government, if it weren't getting its own hands bloody.
I am not sure the U.S. government extends "trust" to information simply because it comes from the U.N.

Sure, they could kill MORE people if they really wanted to, but I don't know that a mere moderate bloodlust is cause to throw the statistics out the window completely.
Who are "they" please?

Well so is Christianity for that matter Sams :) , Seems a shame that so many christians cant decipher "we are all the children of God" from sometimes taught , "Jesus was the real Son & were not good enough.." That so many representaives of the bible put upon thier fellows.

The Jews & muslims recognise Jesus as a great prophet, which to it seems thats what he said as well?

As an aside Ive found the Jehover witness run from the door if I try to explain I am the son of God & Jesus was my brother as the bible told me.{I dont hold a kukri while I say this.;) }

Guess we can all read the same words but the interpritation varies.:D

For me we are all the children of God. But I would smite with great vengeance anyone who invades my country, my house or my family.

Regardless of your views on the invasion/occupation of Iraq, the U.S. is lightening rod and easy scapegoat for many bad things happening in Iraq. "These strangers came in and now there's no food/water/electricity, car bombings, corrupt police, etc. etc. etc." I think blame is a common human reaction. That is going to be used as a powerful weapon against us.

Indeed blame is common. So is moral self justification though.

For whatever reason If armed foriegn troops invaded my country, I might not be very kind towards them. Would you? would you be a sniper or a quisling? or just a innocent trying to stay alive, between the 2 opposing forces?

You make me want to barf. If the "invadors" removed a brutal dictator who killed literally hundreds of thousands and who tortured and raped untold legions (for some strange reason, America-haters never cite studies on that one), then rebuilt the infrastructure and established a democratic, representative government, I would kiss their boots and so would you.

America-haters start with the proposition that America - by virtue of its economic, political and military superiority - is by definition evil. Predictably, from this thesis it naturally follows that nothing America ever does is good, and nothing done against America is ever bad.

cheers

Welcome to the Cantina. This is not the political forum, sarcasm is considered rude behavior here. Your barf comment earned an infraction...please refrain from such activity in the future.

Folks...my job is done, yours is to ignore and politely continue your discussion as gentlemen might.

No Spiral...your job at this point was to *not* respond to him in a like manner.

This is what happens sometimes. One person says something rude, then the guy he said it to *has* to have a snappy comeback. I already gave one guy an infraction for his comment, so now I *have* to give the next guy one.

In the usual course of things, people now pick sides and lots of folks say rude things.

Once a Mod assigns an infraction, it's done...walk away...let it go. This is the natural order of things in the Cantina.

When it gets into rudeness, it gets closed.

Nice discussion to this point anyway.
